Well it was an Epic mail day here at the shop. Went and picked up a tube at the post from NZ with four brand spankin' new Swift Epic blanks inside. It will take me a few days to get a feel for the blanks, as I have other pending projects to complete before I can play.

One of the SALSA 686 blanks (8'6" 6wt) I will be finishing for Carl McNeil owner of Swift Fly Fishing. With all the new blanks I have in the shop this should be an EPIC rod building season ... (yes all puns intended).

A little dramatic camera work.

They look very nice. I would love to have a nice Glass rod someday. I can't wait to see what they come out looking like

Yeh. Building an Epic at the moment. One of the amber coloured eight foot 5 wgts. Just awaiting the arrival of the universal snakes I'm going to out on it ... And a yellow agate stripping guide ...

Cameron had one of the Epic blanks that was finished out by M. Leiderman (some of the best finish work I have seen) at the Somerset show. If memory serves me it was a 764-3, felt real nice in the hand, more of a medium to medium fast action in my opinion, which I like. High quality blank, I think they will gather a loyal following.

I agree with wjude the 764 or 476 as Swift identifies the blank is more of a medium/fast action, still a fast taper but I assume with the slimmer blank diameter does slow it down a tad as opposed to the other blanks. I think this is the taper in the video Carl posted.

The 8ft 5wt seems quite fast to me, but I will know more when I am able to cast it. I am a 5wt nut, and do tend to like a slower action in this line weight.

Now I have been working on a 6wt and I have it almost finished. I should be able to cast it a bit maybe this weekend. But from what I've seen/felt so far I like it ALLOT. I am not a fast action guy but, the fast taper in glass in a 6wt WORKS for me. The one I am building now is not fancy at all, and I really wanted to use some nice wood on the rod but the client will be fishing in some salt so we had to go all anodized parts. - Every person has chosen a metal. .. as a reel seat option for all four 6wt's I have on the list to build I am working to try and get my way with at least one of them. I should be able to get some photos up on my site soon of the build and the finished rod, and maybe give you an idea of feel/action/flex after I cast it for a bit.

Carl is super easy to work with. I have had no problem with the first order or the second shipment. Pretty quick shipping from NZ too.

Not sure if any of this is helpful, but hey it was fun.

Just finished casting the Epic 6wt. Lots and Lots of power. Fast. And not heavy. The rod was well balanced and cast a 6wt line pretty damn well. It is so different than what I would have expected. I think these will become a favorite for some folks.

Glass that casts like graphite, glass that casts like bamboo. Glass is pretty darn versatile.

Here are a couple photos of the Salsa EPIC 8'6" 6wt. I am waiting for the aluminum tubing to arrive, then I can put the tube together and ship this rod out.

Yes, but why not just fish graphite then? Personally, if I am going to put down money for a fiberglass fly rod, I want it to be something I can't feel in graphite or bamboo.
