Two days back, I stumbled over an ad in the 2012 Tiemco catalogue, listed on the internet. There was an ad for a new glass rod by master rod designer Mario Wojnicki. It was released on the 21st february, and here is a link to a film made by Tiemco:

http://www.tiemco.jp/blog/archives/1466. .. ate=movies

According to Kab, the rod is listed at 99 750 YEN, which equals ca $1280. A lot of money, but it's a beautiful rod. You can order a glass rod directly from Mr Wojnicki for less money, but I'm still pleased Tiemco has chosen to ask him make a rod for them.

I tried to post this under "What's new on the market", but with no success. Any moderator can please move it to where it belong.

Chris

I was pleased to learn of this too I really like the color and aesthetics of those rods. A friend emailed me a link to that to further make the point that my being an enthusiast of glass fly rods is contrary and therefore not right. But it does make sense that it would cost more for them to sell a rod made by him ... They have to make a profit from it as well ... 8o

Thanks for sharing Chris. The Tiemco 2012 catalog is available from Japan. Does it show the Fenwick glass rods with the unusual names and Mario's rods in it?

I lust for those loops. Fun to watch the rods load deeply and then release that energy.

That was interesting to listen to and watch. In between the Japanese language parts, there are some interesting tidbits about Mario's devotion to designing glass rods. It seems he spends a lot of time on each model.

This should also finally dispel the assumption many make that he simply takes stock Lami honey blanks and pieces them together.

And finally, I'll just add that my wallet is twitching nervously ...

It always amazes me how little we hear about what's going on in the Japanese FF market. Different language of course, but still. Many of the japanese rods on the market hardly give one single hit on the internet over here.

Chris,
Thanks for sharing.

I watched the whole thing. Even the Japanese interviews were fun to watch.
And the photography was top notch. Watching the loop unroll was mesmerising.

Nice find, ch.

I had to inquire about these. Design and aesthetics are Mario's, but built by Tiemco. Interesting collaboration. ... new mandrels, different glass, start from scratch, no expense spared design. Would love to cast them.

Christian ... interesting find. Wondering if the Google Translate app would work out the Japanese sections of video?
