Biggie_Robs. So far I have received the 7wt (awesome), the 8'3" 6wt streamer (don't think theres a better 6wt), the 8ft 5wt, and waiting for the 804, and 733-2.

Two just about finished!

Those look great! Any details on the 7wt? I'm really looking forward to mine ...

Biggie_robs, I am still waiting for a couple of seven wt's I think those will be the last to show up. I was told the 4wt, and the light 3wt should show up soon.

PeteStiles, here are a few pics of the 5wt. Packing and ready to go this week. Just about have the 6wt done, I think that's the taper you are also getting ... You will love it.

I just got my letter from Tom and Gerri, asking for my deposit to build my rod. A quick phone call to them followed and now all I have to do is wait!

But I have to ask you guys, I'm not putting my name on this rod, I'd like to think we pay for the privilege to be the curators of fine rods like these for a moment in time, and hopefully these rods are passed on to future enthusiasts to enjoy. Is this an odd way to think?

I would never want my name on a rod either, for the reason you state plus the fact that its value is reduced when you do that should you ever want (or need) to sell it.

My first custom rod was made for me by Mike McFarland. It was his famous brown glass 8' 5wt. When he asked if I wanted my name on it, I thought for a while and them asked him to write "The Brown Hornet" on it. I have since sold the rod, and would have regretted putting my name on it, but I never regretted giving it a cool name!

I've had trouble deciding between an 8' #4 vs. 8' #5 TMR configuration for some time now. I emailed Tom Morgan to see how they might compare to his Winston designs as I have examples of both. He quickly replied and suggested that a phone conversation would be more efficient in talking about the tapers.

So, I talked shop with Tom Morgan on the phone yesterday. Wow, what an honor! He spoke with both humility and great pride in these glass designs. And my admiration for him as a person is so high. Despite challenging health circumstances, I get the sense that he just might be reaching the pinnacle of his craft.

He told me that while the TMR designs are very similar to his Winston tapers, he made the tips a little stronger and the butts a little softer in his TMRs.

The Stalker 8' #4 is one of my favorite rods, and the idea of a re-vamped version with a stronger (more versatile) tip has me sold on the TMR 8' #4.

This is the only name you want on your rod. .. :)

Doc, it was great to see your posts today. I was getting worried about you. I cannot wait to see photos of your TMR 8' #4 in action someday. I think that is definitely the one for you.

Yeah, that sounds semi-parabolic to me, or at least less dry fly and more progressive. Me like. Doc, be sure to post a review of that rod once you get it.

Very nice rods, Shane. You are doing a nice job of ensuring they'll be heirloom rods, even long after they've been fished hard (sure hope they will be).

To be clear - I have been waiting less that four months, not four years. I believe the four years Tom refers to is the time since he launched his own company.

Old thread but what the heck.

I waited over three years and my 8' 4wt TMR graphite he made for me serial number includes 1998 so he's had his own company at least 14 years but I think longer than that. My only regret is i did not order a bamboo from him when they were closer to three grand instead of four and when I still got stock options. :(
