I know we've been talking about the new Scott glass for a couple months now but a few weeks ago Jim Bartschi of Scott Fly Rod asked if I would like to make the announcement of the new F2 series on T.F.M. Of course I was excited and honored to do so. Check out today's T.F.M. blog post and also a photo from Scott Fly Rod of the 8'2" four piece five weight.

Looks pretty sharp to me and I am looking forward to casting/fishing a couple of these new fly rods soon.

Woo-hoo! The rod looks very nice. Congrats on the stamp of legitimacy Scott Rod Co has planted on your blog too.

Lugan ... thanks for the comment. I don't know about a "stamp" but very excellent that Jim asked me to post the announcement. I am trying to keep up with all the known glass makers (and uncovering a few along the way through rumors) to stay up on what everyone is working on. I'd like T.F.M. to be the place (besides FFR) where people go to find out the latest news on what is going on within the fiberglass realm of fly fishing.

Cameron, congratulations on Scott asking you to formally announce their new F2 series for 2011. As I said on the other topic on these rods, Scott's update to the venerable Fibertouch series with a full range of rods is great news for all fiberglass fly rod aficionados, regardless of your rod preferences. I am Image over the picture of the 8' 2" - 5 weight / 4 piece. .. wow! These rods are motivating me to do a repair / restoration of a rod in my queue that I was given quite a while ago, which I should be able sell to fund one of the 7' 7" 4 weight / 4 piece.

Cameron, are the F2 rods available now, or was this a "pre-announcement"?

Lugan123 ... as far as I know they will be showing up in shops this fall. I'm sure if you contact your local Scott dealer they can make sure they are getting the rod(s) you're specifically look for.

Gosh, I want one of these so bad it hurts. I've got a lot of stuff to sell before these become available.

Cameron - Congrats! TFM got to announce the F2s even before Scott's own website did! Do you know which models will be at the Colorado Clave?

dbd ... I am supposed to be getting the 703 and 825 as demos to bring out to CO Clave. I can't wait to give these F2's a flex!

What an honor Cameron, those look sweet, I have always thought Scott did a great job with thier spiggots and hardware for "factory" rods, the yellow blanks are a great shade too. I am sure they will be nice fishing tools.

Edit: Could there still be a sliding band option on the lighter models to come? Think the uplocking kind of fits on a larger 8'+ rod will look nice with modern reel options as well. Looks to be a cork insert in the reel seat which is ok looking in my opinion, but can't tell for sure from the pic- I kinds of dig the grips on the other Scott rods and think this coke-bottle style looks ok, keeping a common theme in the line up with the epoxied end ring of course.

Sound like a great option for a high-end glass rod with a good warranty program behind it, which can be nice to have.

HH

Cameron, look forward to your evaluation of the F2 rods. I'm not knocked out by the hardware and grip on the 5 line rod as it appears to be sourced directly from the G2. I guess I was hoping for a more unique or retro (gold anodized hardware and original Scott western grip) appearance. Anyway, hope they got the rod blank action dialed in.

I've got to agree with you, Kinzua. As excited as I am about these rods, I was hoping for different hardware. If they are around as long as the other best-loved series of Scott rods, however, we may see some variations down the line. The grips/hardware of the F(1) series certainly changed over the years. Of course, that doesn't help us now. Make no mistake, though; I'm selling an organ to buy one of these, if need be.

kinzua and Kenov - I agree as well; a little bit of a let down with Scott's hardware choice, especially the reel seat. There is the Scott Custom Shop option with lots of choices (but no vintage reel seat) for a $150 custom charge + options, but I was hoping for a factory-spec'd cork reel seat with a simple cap and ring, like my F75.

Image

Maybe FFR could negotiate a group order with a simple reel seat change (e.g. cork, cap & ring) w/o the custom charge? Image

Doc - the line guard on your pictured Hardy is setup for LHW, the line is wound for RHW ... is this custom?

fred - when I bought it used, the original owner had it in this configuration. I've been too lazy to switch over the line guard. Hmm, that tiny screwdriver is laying around here somewhere. . .

Beautiful rod, but a bit out of my wallet range, I'm afraid.

Really excited about this rod. Is this replacing the Fibertouch, or is it just a new line entirely? I wasn't sure by reading the release. It looks like the same weight/length configs that the Fibertouch has currently.

Either way, I'm really looking at that 2 wt. for some mountain cuttie chasing. I love Scott's rod; I picked up a 8'4" 3 wt. G2 back in July and have been extremely pleased with it.

It's all new, and only one of the "old" F models carry over to the F2 line (a 7'0" 3wt). The other 4 configurations are different. Even the 6'0" and 6'6" rods are a different line weight from F to F2.

You're entirely right, I'm not sure what I was looking at when I thought that. Thanks for the info.

Fellows ... still waiting on a couple demos. I echo the thought that more retro hardware would have been nice to see but it will be interesting to get them in hand for a full inspection. I'll be really interested to see what the hardware looks like on the 703/3 in comparison to my F 703/3.

From the sounds of several that I know that already have F2's on order they are showing delivery early in September!

While somehting retor and unique would definitely have been cool, I'm fine with the hardware. I view Scott rods as tools, not art.

The F2's arrived today and they are really quite stunning. I didn't get home in time to cast them this evening but hope to get in the yard with them this weekend. I am also scheming a trip to North Carolina some time this next week to give them a flex.

Photos soon.

Oh ... and for the true Scott Fan Boys ... the "Scott" signature in black ink on the retro yellow blank is really sharp!

From Ian at Scott via stillwater outfitters in Oregon;

We're aiming for October 1 for general delivery. We should have a few ready to go in the coming week or so.

They are already slowly rolling into dealers' hands. My 774 is already on the way to me and I should have it this week. I bought mine from a dealer who says I'll be getting rod #1 of the 774 model.
