2011 has been kind of exciting around the shop, we have moved into a larger space. We now have 2 class rooms, fly tying and rod building along with a retail space. We pickup up a bunch of new products for the year, Abel Reels, Rio Lines and Leaders, William Joseph waders and gear, children's waders and vests, Hyde boats along with numerous other items. With the Star valley Clave less than a month away, we are getting ready for the arrival of our fellow glass aficionados. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in July! ****www.pioneeranglers.com ****

1200 dozen flys, we should be Abel to find something that works

Kids waders, size 2T to size 10/11 and kids fishing vests.

their goes the shop profit, now I want them all.

Oops, how did the 13 pound Lake trout get in there?

Best of luck in this new endeavor, there aren't enough good tackle places around.

If I'm ever in Afton, which seems really attractive these days when its around 100 here ...

Congratulations and good luck. That's one corner of the country that's high on my list of places to fish someday. Hope to give you some business someday.

Right the Hell on! I love it when somebody opens a "small" operation. You get that personal feeling and satisfaction when visiting the stores. I've been telling the wife for a few years now that once I "turn out" and get my journeyman card with the union, I moving and opening my own small outfitters/rodshop. I'm tired of working for the "man"! Good on ya MS!

looks like a great store! that's the kind of place I'm working on opening here in western PA. all the shops around me are the same, Orvis/sage/simms/yada/yada/yada/$$$/$$$/$$$!
I always liked the idea of a fly shop for working stiffs like ourselves! I'm also trying to keep lots of inventory of local made rods, locally tied flies, etc.
best of luck to you, I'll be sure to stop by if I'm ever in that direction!

Congratulations and best of luck to you. I bought some flies in a sporting goods store in Afton a couple of years ago. Are you the only fly shop in town, in terms of being primarily dedicated to that business?

Excellent news!

Don't worry about filling empty corners ... soon enough you'll be adding an addition to the building!

The Berber carpet is very cool ... congratulations and best of luck,

The next time I am out there, I will drop by. I have some friends up there that need a visit.

The last time I was out there, I fished up at a reservoir up toward the intermittent spring.
It felt like shooting fish in a barrel, but those cut's were a blast.

To add to the chorus, congratulations on opening a really nice looking shop. It sounds like it will be the type of store that people feel comfortable just stopping by for a coffee and to talk fishing (including the requisite stories about the one the got away last time, you should have been out last Thursday,. ..), along with advise and tips on local waters for out-of-towners. If I make it up that way I would definitely stop by. Best wishes for success.

Andrew.

Mike, looks like you are getting off to a great start. Nice lookin' digs. Big enough for folks to stand around and chat.

Sounds like a clave might be in the not-to-distant future.

Mike ... congrats on the new shop. I can't wait to highlight it on T.F.M.

kitefly ... the "Star Valley" area would be an unreal spot for a Fiberglass Flyrodders Clave. There are so many "glass friendly" streams full of cutthroats of several types that no one would even have to think about fishing the more famous waters near Jackson. Mike could keep us all busy on water such as this little Bonneville Cutthroat stream that will go unnamed ...

Nice shop. If you are going to offer rod building classes and rod building materials and cater to working class fishermen, I would suggest you get in touch with Dennis Stone in Oregon and carry some of his very reasonably priced bamboo blanks as well. That could be another niche that you could fill. Dennis makes a fine bamboo blank, and at a very attractive price, too. I also get tired of the high end shops that are basically all alike.

Thanks for the kind words and support. If anyone travels through, please stop, we would love to have you. Bill, I am familiar with Dennis' blanks, I have built on a couple of them, nice stuff! If all goes as planed, there very could be a week long calve in the works for 2011, sometime around Labor Day.

A plug for Mike at Pioneer Anglers as a reminder to support a fellow FGFR'er for your winter project stock ups

To accompany some of his bargain TL Johnson synergy clearance blanks Mike very kindly agreed to round up a bunch of hardware for me from several different suppliers including a custom order lemke seat.

To top it all off he also agreed to receive and trans-ship a lami s-glass blank from Beartooth for me with my Pioneer order - above and beyond the call of duty and much appreciated given the cost of shipping to the UK.

The fruits will be posted here in due course

Thanks again Mike

After lots of searching, I think I finally found some interesting cork grips that a person can afford to build with. Pop on over to the site and take a look. The "high dollar" grips are 16.50 and the rest are 14.50. let me know what you think.

Hey Mike, set one of those Fenwick style aside to use in August for building up that Fenwick blank we missed doing in CO.
