Picked these up at a fishing flea market.Big room full of vintage gear.Had some self control and NO flyrods or reels came home with me but i had to have these .Anyone use these?I am keeping one and passing on the other.Same blank and handles but one has more modern guides that should be OK with braid. Is the reel compatible with braid?

Thanks Russ. Was in my son's boat on Lake Michigan chasing perch last December.Caught 2 big smallmouth on one of casting rods.Probably the first fish on casting rod in years. The rods are in tubes and still in plastic socks.Pid 20 for the reel.Took it apart and cleaned .Lubed everything with hot sauce.Do not know if braid will cut grooves I the level winder.

that's a classic match with a Browning Lew's.

Along the way I picked up a Browning Silaflex 910, 6'2" 2-pc, Fuji offset pistol grip - it was rated 3/8 oz at the bottom end, but I found it way too tippy to be a good bass rod.
I gave it to Tony to match with his Abu 170 spincast, and they made a great combo - capable of fishing 1/8 oz.

BD-i passed on a boxed NOS Browning version of the Lews from the same seller.Would not budge on 100 .Is it OK to use braid on this reel?I love braid on glass on my ul spinning setups. The pistol grips are comfortable on these. Will be mostly using this from brushy scrubby shores.Probably won't be throwing too light.

The BB1-LG you have is Shimano built. The one I showed is Ryobi-built, and they're the same size.
The line guide can handle braid. For the deep spool, back with 20-25 yds, 20-25-lb mono, and top with your working braid.
That's how I fish my deep-spool Super Dutys.

the older rod has tungsten carbide guides, which are certainly safe for braid. I think they are very handsome.. good find !

The Lews is braid safe, did not fish it at the time they were new, but have fished mine quite a bit since..

Thanks Doug.Reel is clean and spooled with braid.Going on the more modern rod.Same blanks same handles different guides and thread work. Will sell the other one off probably. The one i am keeping matches my 6 and 7.5 B/S fly rods better. Both are 300 series like the casting rod.
