A few weeks ago i finally got out on the water and brought a vintage phillipson/mitchell spinning combo with some bait as well as an FF79/1494 combo. Went to Quincy Lakes and stopped at one that still was covered 2/3s with ice, requiring me to walk to the upper end to find open water not visible from road or parking lot. Started with power bait and finished with night crawlers. Landed 3 and lost a couple in about 3 hrs fishing on bottom. Unfortunately did not line up FF79 as i didnt see any risers or cruisers for which i would have immediately done as sight fishing is my favorite form of flyfishing.

Cooked one up for a shore lunch. These fought hard and jumped several times straining the unsmooth Mitchell 304 reel (i need to service it).

Had a great trip and thanks for looking!

Wow! Great trip with some dandy trout on a classic outfit. Really like that first photo.

those are some really fine trout.. nice. Love the look of the outfit.

just this winter serviced a new-to-me 304, still need to take it fishing. They are all a bit grindy/unsmooth, it can help to shim the gears with some extra thin copper Mitchell washers. Mine was stiff but quiet, after cleaning it ran beautifully but noisily..

I ended up overpaying for some original-stock Mitchell washers and have an oversupply now. PM me with an address, and I can mail out a few in case of need when servicing..
