I regularly fish from a canoe in ponds and on lakes, and recently fished for redfish and specks from a borrowed kayak on an inlet which was a lot of fun (even though my lack of experience left me fighting a slot red from my feet in chest-deep water after I capsized).

What we call salt lakes are shallow grass expanses from the bay shore of the barrier islands, with depth greatly affected by tide movement. They're typically enclosed and accessed by narrow passes, and gamefish move in and out with the tides to sample the cuisine.

Josh (neumie) on the forum hosts a Redfish Roundup every fall, and I plan to make all 5 days kayak fishing different flats next month.
I only made one day last year - viewtopic.php?f=33&t=70363

A different day on East Flats Lake - Mustang Island - 20 miles and a ferry ride from Estes
We'll have rising tides for the skinny lake this year - 18-kt wind this March day, and it was easier to stake the boat and get out to fight the red, rather than lift the drift sock and blow away.
