Hi everyone!

I apologize in advance that I don't know anything about fishing! :-P
Someone has kindly suggested using this forum for help.

But I came across what seems to be a vintage fishing rod while clearing out some of my dad's stuff after he passed away.

The name on the rod looks like it reads Kingfisher Prospector.

Can anyone please shed some light on this? Would it be of any value to a collector?

Thank you! :-)

That's a fairly high-grade glass rod in excellent condition, in a rare travel/pack configuration. Dates to about 1960.
You found the best market - people who like to tinker with old tackle and take it fishing. There's not much of a collector's market for this stuff.
The value is modest - it's under $100.
However, you're in a good seller's market (slows down a bit with summer activity).
With your photography skill, a few more close-ups, and a heading like " Rare Kingfisher 4-pc Travel Spin Rod w/ tube"
it would definitely sell on ebay.
There's probably a linen sock missing, that keeps the pieces from rattling together in the tube.

Thank you very much bulldog for your prompt reply and taking your time to help me with this information! :-)

Yeah, around 1960 would fit into the timeline of when my dad probably got it.

I appreciate your advice!

Nice looking rod. If I were to guess it looks like it might have been built by Heddon. Sure looks like their early blanks and wraps.

Thanks for showing ! Looks to be in excellent condition, possibly even unused. I doubt it is of high collector value; if I had my grandfather's spinning rod, one I gave him about 1960, it would sure be of high sentimental value, so perhaps someone in your family would think of it in that way. Cosmetics of the rod suggest it is from the 1960s, maybe earlier--but from the time period when plastic tubes hadn't supplanted carboard. The tube looks to be in fine condition as well. Do you know it is the original tube provided for that rod, and are there any other labels/images on it that might be identification clues? Sometimes, knowing we can't hold on to every item--practical, valuable, or sentimental--from a family member, an Ebay auction is the only way to find out if the item is worth something, accepting the answer the high bid provides. Thanks again for showing.

Thanks bulldog! :-)

And also, whrlpool, thanks very much for your comments and taking time to offer some advice. :-)
I'm pretty sure it's the original tube.
The only marking I could see is the "405" on the top lid. I've added another photo showing this.
