Pete, hope your daughter is healed very soon.
I figured I have more cameras than flashlights, and I have enough flashlights.
With the decade-old time period and the name, it almost has to be a long stroke spool made to peel off line.
Not knowing about the reel, I couldn't compare it to anything, but the past decade has seen big improvements in spinning reel design, strength, and line management (especially for braid) because of computer design and lessons learned. Sounds like your reel fits in the beginning of that curve.
never mind, I was wrong, it's not long-stroke spool, it's a large diameter spool,
found a closeout/OOS
listing for it at overstock: Lightweight carbon-fiber components
SDS drag system
Five ABEC stainless steel ball bearings
Wide spool design for long, smooth accurate casts
Reel features aluminum body
Water-shielded drag system and aluminum spool
Medium-sized reel
Dimensions: 5 inches long x 4 inches wide x 4 inches deep
The one review they have from the closeout is dated 2011
Weight is not listed, but it sounds light.
No mention of the oscillation mechanism, likely locomotive-drive, but looks like a nice reel, from the light, smooth and computer-balanced era.
There really aren't any new mechanisms (Young Ambidex was worm drive) - a mix of ideas from every decade back to the 30s, they're just getting better at CAD manufacturing and strength of materials analysis.
