Found a new flea market to raid, luckily other visitors don't share my enthusiasm for vintage fishing gear!

You don't see many Bristol glass rods, in fact, they didn't get a citing in J&J.

Nice grab of good winter projects. The Custom Deluxe rod might be built on a Phillipson Eponite blank.

The best way to check for worn guides is to pull a piece of panty hose material through them. Any rough spot will snag the material. If you are planning to fish these as light spin rods, new guides are probably due.

How do the ferrules look?

It's a side point I'll leave to you if you want to start a new topic in fly-tying: the Herter's manual is a great find. I have had one since the early 1970s; just a quick flip of the pages shows styles and techniques that were "invented" or "designed" just a few years ago. I wonder how that can be.

The ferrules are all good, need some butt caps and a ring for the one, I'll have to check my wife's unmentionables drawer for some pantyhose. Yes I believe it is a Fred Debelle rod.
"Just invented a few years ago" I've always envisioned Mr. Herter as a sort of PT Barnum, now enlightened, He's becoming more of a Teddy Roosevelt in my eyes.
