Recently restored a DAM Quick 110. This is a very smooth operating UL reel and lots of fun to use. The worm drive gearing is quite nice.

Paired it with a W&M Far Cast 6.5' rod to pull in some fat gills and shellcrackers. I haven't been able to track down much info on the W&M rod. Anyone have access to old W&M catalogs?

pretty rod and nice photos.
When Cabela's bread and butter was catalog lure- and rod-building, they were the sole US importer of Quick reels.
JC = Champion Series Spinning rod, they state moderate price in '67 catalog, but their '67 models have more letters added - JCSS-6-1/2, so I'm betting your model is the same series, but older than the Eagle Claw catalog listing in J&J. The equivalent grade fly rods in this series were 3A.

Thanks for the info on the rod. Good stuff.

I have schematics for the 110 - 550 series that have Southbend on the docs. I'm guessing they imported these at one time.

At one time I had a pretty good early Quick collection, including a 2nd model Standard and early Junior, but they were easy to turn...

Variable pitch on the Jr handle is a neat touch (shorter = quicker), and if you keep making it shorter, it turns the handle flat into the body for storage.

I love the crackle finish on these DAM reels. Probably because I have a bunch of radios from the 30-50s era with a similar finish.

Good job on the reel. They are very smooth reels. I had a bunch, all later n series reels, still have some. One that sticks out was a 330N I bought new, in the early 80's. If you held the body of the reel, and moved your hand in a circular motion, the handle would start turning, it would crank itself. It was a wonder to me.

Looking at the first picture, you wouldn't know it was German, there's only a handful of parts there. You know, I'm looking at the pictures of it, I don't see any anti-reverse, is it on the sideplate under the handle? Glad to see you're enjoying it, good fishing.

Tim

Interesting on the parts count. Several of the Italian reels I've worked on had a low parts count. This 110 is similar. I just restored a DAM 330 and it has more parts than the 110, even though they are in the same series.

The anti-reverse selector is under the handle. It's a three position selector: anti-reverse with clockwise cranking, no anti-reverse, and anti-reverse with counter-clockwise cranking. The side plate can be put in three different positions, so you can put the selector in a spot you like the most. This is all a result of the fact that these reels can be set up for left or right hand reeling.

You can see that I changed the position on mine.

Love it. I almost never check this part of the forum but the "Quick" caught my eye.

Quicks were our reel of choice in the 70's, 110, 220, 330. Bluegills to salmon. When they did the "N" thing I never could get used to the change.

Thanks for the pictures.

Glad you liked them. Some shots of a 330 for your viewing pleasure. This one was not nearly as clean as the 110.

no offense, but those aren't quite worm drive.
That's a long pinion gear that simply turns the rotor.
the spindle oscillation is the locomotive eccentric drive - two different functions.

Gonna have to look tonight when I get home, I'm sure I have my old 330 on a Berkley rod downstairs.

Not sure where my 110(s) ended up, they may be around somewhere.....

Some of Penn's early spin reels came with plastic spools, I had a 710 that came with a plastic spool, cracked.
