I hate asking this here but can't think of another place about any classic tackle. I have an old friend of 45 years. He is now 83 and can't fish any more. I dread when I get to that point. But he ask me to sell some of his tackle which I don't like doing, because I have no idea how much some thing is worth. But how do you tell a friend no. Well besides some fly rods, he asked me to sell two Garcia conolon spinning rods and two Shakespeare wonder reels the old maroon ones with spare spools. Then look as though they have never been used. But to my question. Does anyone know of a forum where old spinning reels are collected? I want to see how much they may or my not sell for.

You got some great spinning rods in the Garcia.
There is a book, probably out of print, by Ben Wright - can also try to contact Ben Wright through ORCA

Thanks Ron I'll give that a try. I also have his Fenwick ps90, which is a 9' spinning rod. But a round here old glass isn't used by any one. Except their are a few that use classic glass fly rods, but not many. I only know a few and their all on this forum.

do you have pics of the Shakespeare reels ?

I've been buying some of the maroon ones, the 2052 and 2062 models.
The 2052 is the ultralight version and worth more than the 2062. Rough working condition sells for about $40-50, excellent condition in box has fetched over $100.
2062 about $30 in rough working, $50 in excellent condition.

is the most active forum I have found, for the more recent spinning reels. It's about reel repair rather than collecting, but most of these vintage need repair ;-)

ORCA at https://reeltalk.orcaonline.org
tends to be more the older reels, but could be worth checking there.

Just got this one for $45 shipped,

To correct the tendency of the 2052/2062 Shakespeare reels to "groove" their line roller; remove the "Nyloc" nut that holds the line roller onto it's plate and bend that plate 5 degrees or so - so the roller will no longer be at a pure 90 degree angle to the line. The design of the bail allows it to adapt no problem. Just that 5 degree offset will allow the line to slightly "swipe" across the roller and prevent eroding a groove.

If the nut's nylon insert is no longer pliable, replacement identical nuts are easily available at hardware stores. Be careful to watch for the small teflon sleeve inside the line roller, and possibly a small washer for the roller (some had them, others did not).

if you can figure out the nut size, Bolt Depot is the most amazing vendor on the internet

I still have to take some pictures of his equipment. The reels are the larger ones. One is the 2081A in a leather pouch with a side pocket for the spare spool. The other is the 2091 still in the box with the paper work. They both look almost new. He only had line on the spare spools. So I'm going ask him if he even used them.

those 2081 and 2091 are excellent reels, but I haven't followed those prices - the reels are big saltwater ones, not something I use.
See
https://reeltalk.orcaonline.org/viewtopic.php?t=6266

My guess is they aren't going to be as valuable as the smaller ones. The new saltwater spinning reels are significantly less maintenance than the older ones. In freshwater this doesn't matter but in the salt it's a consideration.

prices for 2081 seem to be 20-80, prices for 2091 similar.
Watch these and see what the reels actually end up selling for..

for you guys that have shown some interest in how they look, here are two pictures. The 2091 has never been used, as I thought. The 2081-A used once.

Also for you guys that post a lot of pictures. Why do my photo's look grainy on here and why doesn't the picture show up only the url? Do I need to turn something on here?
