A couple of bait casting reels you don't often see, a Shapleigh's Keen Kaster level wind and a Simplicity from Portland, Ore. Thought you might enjoy.

The Keen Kaster is a trade reel -- I don't know who made this particular reel, have never tried to research.

The Simplicity is machined aluminum, fairly basic design. Mine is missing a drag where you see the threaded hole. A clicker on the off side is sorta klunky. You pull the knob in the center of the winding handle to free spool the reel.

cool reels - the Simplicity appears to be a benchmade reel, but even if it isn't, it's very collectible.

As far as your Shapleigh's reel, I'm voting for Ocean City, because of its similarities with this Nile, their top-line freshwater LW.

Ron, very nice knife. I have a few other Shapleigh and Simmons Hardware items around but no other fishing that I recall.
Thanks for sharing.

here's my opinion of pretty baitcasters, though:
Meek No. 3

Abbey casting reel made by Montague

Bluegrass 33 (Meek)

blue-eyed Shakespeare Leader

Shakespeare 1740 Tournament freespool (this is a tiny little baitcaster)

and of course, a proper Henshall casting rod

for pure function, though, you can't beat a South Bend 1131A ABL and a SB Doublebilt rod

properly adjusted, you cannot backlash this reel
