Picked this up recently for steelheading ... looks to be unfished. Plus I have the tube, but a non-original sock.I was looking for a book to learn more about fenwicks --but I couldn't find anything then I remembered this august group. So, I thought maybe I would ask a couple questions:

Any thoughts as to value, date of mfg, place of mfg., whether this has/had a reputation as a good rod for steelhead.

It should be a great drift rod, nice soft tip. I have a FS 90 that I built as my first build when I was 14. The FS 90 was a beast as a spin rod so I converted it to a casting rod. Caught a lot of salmon and steelies with it. I built a FS 80 for a friend and he treasures it and he is a better drift fisherman than me. You have a great rod.

you'll have to look at the serial number but judging by the color, probably around 1970. First digit (alpha) of serial numbers denotes year of mfr:

A 60-61
B 61-62
C 62-63
D 63-64
E 64-65
. ..and so on until K that covers two years

for more info on Fenwicks, check out Vic Johnson's book on Fenwick, comes up on eBay often

you have a nice rod there
