thanks Jeff, that is great.
Pretty new stuff there. The first anti-reverse on a spinning reel was patented only 4 years before.

A very enjoyable read, thanks for the link.

I also got a kick out of the "supersonic washer" on page 126!

cool stuff. I'm trying to figure out when the zebco 33 came on the scene nationwide.? Anyone know? I was born in 44 and was fly fishing around 52 or 53; when the 33 came out i got one and started spincasting. had to be around 1954 or 55-p-

I'm not sure when they came out with the 33 but I know the ones they made when I was a kid back in the 70's in my opinion were much better than the version they make today. Both my father and I had a couple of them and I loved that reel. Actually I think mine is still in my parents basement, been thinking about going and rummaging around to see if I can find it.

Not long after I got married I bought my wife a Zebco combo with the current version of the 33 on it to teach her to fish. I personally didn't like the reel near as much as the one I had. Then again, it could always be my 40+ year old mind remembering the way I thought it was and not how it really was.

Now there is one happy kid! I'm not sure which one is bigger ... the smile or the bass!

Congrats!
