Enjoyed fishing the Toe River outside of Burnsville NC over the weekend.
We landed at my nephew Pete's rustic and comfortable digs at The Arthur Morgan School in Celo Community, where he teaches music to young people
What a beautiful, healthy river. Large trout are common here and my nephew Henry caught a monster hatch brook last week.
Juvenile fish were teeming everywhere and larger smallies and redeyes were holding in the deep pools, clearly visible against the sand and large boulders
Most folks were fishing live bait- crawdads are a great choice. Panther Martins or roostertails catch fish here too.
I fished Yuhina's St Croix Imperial 6-0 XXL with a 2-1/2" Lunker City minnow imitation in black/gold sparkle slipped over a size 6 bloodred panfish hook, and basically caught fish throughout the afternoon
It was a family event, some folks tubed, some fished, we all ate and drank well. The nephews who stayed up there overnight were battering the bigger smallies for supper.
My grand-niece Zoe McGuire was learning to negotiate the rocks
