Hi everyone! Happy holidays and Happy New Year!
I was curious if anyone had experience with the new line of rods through Rodmaker 24/7? I am interested in possibly building the 4wt and 5wt blanks. Let me know anyone thoughts on the actions and feel. Thanks!

Just got the 5wt in (orange, I wanted 8’ vs 8-6) feels okay, but it has been crazy and I haven’t had a chance to flex test much as I left town for new years. Will, give an update in a few days.

Hi Jason,
I built up a Rodmaker 7’6” 4wt over the summer. It was the olive-colored s-glass blank, which was a pretty quick taper. Rather stiff and fast-action for glass, would make a versatile fishing rod and probably handle a 5 wt line easily. I built it for a buddy so didn’t get a chance to fish it, only cast it in the yard. My buddy loves it and fishes nothing else since he got his hands on it.

I don’t have experience with the e-glass blanks but the s-glass was a bit rigid for my tastes. Either way, well made blank, for sure, and hard to beat for the price.

Rodmaker just added new blanks to the line up. Custom tapers and more classic E glass as well. https://www.rodmaker247.com/rodblanks

Shane,
Any comments on differences between fastglass and the S2?

From what I know the prepreg is the same S2 uni glass, the difference is in the taper, the larger line weight rods are faster action... really nice I think.

Thank you for the reply,

S2 faster than fast-glass or backwards?

All the S glass blanks are S2 fiberglass, the blanks marked as "Fast" are faster action.

I have built a 4wt rod using the Rodmaker 24/7 blank, and I am very happy with it. It has a medium-fast action that is easy to cast and control. The blank is well-made and has a nice finish. I think it is a great value for the money.

A buddy built a 7’ 3wt and an 8’3” 7wt. Both were the “old” blanks before all the new stuff came out this year. But I will say both rods have cast very well and a little on the faster side. I liked the 7wt with an 8wt line better, but again haven’t really had a chance to fish them yet.

Nice! I like that set-up. Please give updates once you start wrapping the guides. I am always interested in threat color choices.

`I’ve just built out the 6 ft two weight in olive. Weather provided time to build and now has limited my experience with it to the lawn but:

Blank is straight, spigots fit well although the gap is a bit wide on each—way better than the opposite, color is consistent, a couple of very small blems on the interior of the blank. Overall, a well made blank.

Action is fairly fast—after all, it is six feet and two weight. It responds well to picking up the pace and I was able to get really tight loops on casts in the 30 to 40 ft range. Even shoots a bit of line and I was picking up a load feel on the backcast. I’d imagine it will roll cast just fine.

In summary, an honest and capable two weight that will likely be a keeper. Now for spring and some creeks. :hat

Jason,
Getting close to finishing the project. This is the 8' 8wt 24/7 blank in amber S-glass. All components from Matt at Proof Fly Fishing. Burnt orange nylon thread, no color preserver. Finish is spar thinned 50:50 with mineral spirits. Now have 3 coats, will probably go with 6.

Test cast the orange 805 and 808 today. Both have very nice actions. Really effortlessly tossing nice loops. They are still a bit green, so I didn’t push it, but I just had to. ;)

I think they are pre the new tapers? So the new versions might even be sweeter!

406 DT and SA redfish lines used.

As a follow-up, I was able to check the two weight out on some stocked rainbows on a fairly calm day. My 2WF was waaay too fast for my taste, I could get it to work but it wasn’t pleasant. The 2DT did very well as did a 2/3 WF full sink I have. Successful flies were a 12 prince nymph and a same sized bead head bugger.
