Howdy,

Anyone out there familiar with this rod or one line weight heavier? I'd like to add something specifically for high Sierra Nevada lakes that I frequent where the fish don't always get large but extra length for back cast options and some distance comes in handy. Seems like the bit I've been able to gather these like 1/2 line heavy so a 3 is likely a 3/4 and reasonable fast action. Terminal tackle isn't huge.... Perhaps mini chubby on #12 with a lightly weighted nymph or other dries. I tend to carry a second rod if the wind really picks up or switch to scandi/Skagit heads 150gr to get it out there between gusts. Any help would be much appreciated. The other option is cts who makes quartz blanks in 8'6" and 9' configurations.

Hi,
I have a Mcfarland 8"6" 4wt GTX in a 4 piece configuration. It is a great casting rod.
Mine was built by Leiderman Rodmaker. It is also a great looking rod.

Would you call it a 4/5wt?

I've got the 3wt GTX 8'6". If it were me, Id choose one wt up for distance and wind in the high Sierras in that series. Dave
