Having fished the 70p, you should trust your own opinion more than other reviews because you know what you like. There's a lot of confusion and differing opinions about what parabolic action is, so reviews are going to be all over the place. In my experience, all the rods I've tried that were labeled parabolic were more semi-parabolic - that is, somewhere in between progressive and true parabolic. I've never cast one but my understanding is that a true parabolic rod has a relatively heavy tip and a hinge point in the butt section. The only two "parabolic" Barclay rods I've owned are the 64p and the 70p and I would call them semi-parabolic. Whatever you call them, people seem to like them a lot - you included.

I recently took deliver of the 704 Para, a demo Chris had marked down. Only lawn cast so far. It is a 3pc. I like it a lot. It is almost a like a little brother to the 79 GP from the Synthesis series, which I have and love, though slightly more parabolic. I've never cast the 70p, but I had a 64p and recently sold it back to its prior owner when I decided to get the 704 Para. I prefer the action on the 704 Para to the 64p but I think comparing these two is apples and oranges. The 6" difference in length puts the rods into separate use classes. The 704 Para does great in close and can reach out as well without a problem. Very easy going when casting slightly sidearm. Single hand spey and change of direction casts are awesome with the rod. Again, all on the lawn, so with that caveat. I was using 406 DT4 which seemed perfect. Hope to report more when I get the rod out on the water.

Of all Chris’s early rod series for me the 70p was my favorite.His price might be high to some but you are paying for some great rod design and build quality and can’t wait to get my GP ............Aurelio

I have Chris' 75P in Sunny Yellow, it is a 4/5wt and has a lovely Semi Parabolic action which I like with a Wulff TT5wt, 4 or 5wt Silk or similar Masterline and a OPST 150 and 175 grain Skagit line.
I believe Chris puts a lot of thought into these creations and they work accordingly. Of course if you're not fond of Parabolic actions it may not be for you. They really aren't that hard to cast but it takes a while to get maximum performance out of one. They aren't the end all though and I have plenty of Progressive rods that are wonderful too.
I have numerous Parabolic rods in bamboo, graphite and fiberglass and I like them all.
Give one a try, Parabolic that is, and you may be surprised or disappointed but you won't really know until you fish one for a while. So the price of admission is rather steep.

That's a great opportunity to cast them.
If Chris comes to fish in Europe with me I'll let him leave with just his toothbrush

I have an 804 Parabolic coming in the next two weeks. I am very excited as I am a big fan of Chris' work. I will post here after I get a chance to cast it.
