I was wondering the same thing myself, they have only 2 models in stock online. I don’t know maybe it’s this crazy supply chain crap, or maybe ???
Mike.

Questions like that are best directed right to the company. Customer service at Orvis will have the most up-to-date info and might even be able to direct you to a stocking dealer that has what you want in stock.

The International Fly Tackle Dealer show is coming up at the end of next month. Orvis and many other manufacturers usually announce new rods and other tackle there. This follows the typical pattern for new releases with Orvis. Though, with the public health situation, IFTD is a bit later than usual. It wouldn't surprise me if we get news from there about an update to that line of rods. Demystifly.com usually has very good updates from the show about new products.

Or, it could be a supply chain issue. My money would be on the former, but who really knows these days?

I emailed Orvis customer service Sunday and within an hour received this reply:

"Thank you for reaching out to Orvis about our Superfine Glass fly rods. That has been an awesome rod for Orvis and a customer favorite. The series has been in production since 2014, which is actually a bit longer than Orvis normally keeps a series on the market! Those models have been discontinued for 2022 and we are working on something new to take their place. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with, and have a great day!"

My follow-up question was if the "something new" would be fiberglass, and I got this reply:

"At the moment we do not have too much information about upcoming models, but the Superfine Glass was a very successful series for Orvis and we do have plans to revamp it in the future."

Something to look forward to.

Thanks for the info. Now I guess we all get to dream about what a revamp might look like. I really enjoy my SFG 2wt under the right conditions. Id love to see these rods in a more packable 4 piece configuration, Id likely own atleast one or two more if they were 4 peices.

Yup... a 4-pc version would be something I'd buy. Let's hope that's in the plans.

I’m really glad I found this thread. I’ve been watching the 888 and was kinda bummed when it disappeared. I did online chat and they couldn’t tell me much, so it’s comforting to know they’re not gone forever

If you want one call shops that carry Orvis rods within driving distance, and search the internet. They are still available.

I just got done talking with Reed at Orvis . The Superfine Glass line has been revamped, this project has been ongoing for awhile. The Superfine glass line has been overwhelming and a great success for Orvis. He told me the new models will be on the website late July/ Early August. The 2wt will remain a 3 pc model but all other weight models will be a 4 pc. There will be a small price increase on the new models. Reed told me as it looks now the new models will retail for $495.00 on the website.
That is all he could tell me as of now, but said to check the website frequently for updates.

I was able to find a way to get to the page for these rods using an alternate search method and noticed the page headline was "Home/Hidden category..." so they clearly were intentionally removing the page from view. Still, it showed one 3wt in stock and that's one I was interested in, so I ordered it....we'll see if I actually get it. The others were all out of stock. This is how it was showing up:

Trident will let you add them to the cart, but when you do and look at it the status is backordered.

That 763 is a sweet stick, hope it works out for you. If not, they are still out there, just gotta keep searching.

I have the 764 and think it's a great rod. Not sure how they would improve on the taper, but the hardware is not my favorite. The single locking ring tends to loosen on its own. I'd like to see downlocking hardware and wood spacers like the old Battenkill cane rods. Also, bring back the green fiberglass rod tubes!

As unlikely as it is, I hope they knock the length of the 6 & 8wts down to ~8' (if they keep those models around).

Fingers crossed....I got an e-mail confirmation so that's a good sign. I also was able to put a backorder in for a 764...not that I need another rod in that length/weight, but I figured it's only 50/50 I'll get it anyway!

The Bears Den had the 6wt and the 71/2ft 3wt when I was there yesterday. Www.bearsden.com Scott is good people and will take care of you.

Nice rods according to users, good sellers according to Orvis, so let's discontinue it for a "new and improved" model. Where have I seen this before? Oh yeah, every other manufacturer.

Planned price increase... ;)

All kidding aside, based on the info Orvis gave to mikee:

It looks like it might be more about 4 pc rods which are more popular, at least with the graphite crowd who I assume they are hoping to attract as well.

One can only wonder if the 4pc rods will be even faster...

One of the things that I like about my 7'6" SFG is that it's only a three piece, even though I wished it were a two piece. Making it four piece is a step in wrong direction, IMO. Maybe less so for the longer rods.

There are amazing rods in four (or more like the SF Scott pack rods) piece
