bulldog1935's gravity feed method for superglue certainly works well. As I wrote above, I wipe the stuff off which gives a somewhat thinner coating. The secret to wiping it off is to do it fast without going over the same area several times. I have done the wiping with my finger inside a nitrile glove as well as with a piece of paper towel or a Kimwipe. Of course, things other than superglue work, but I have found it to work best for me.

Gunga Din comes to mind - I envision any kind of wiping action sticking everything together in the world's worst mess - even cleaning the tip of the super glue bottle, have to work Fast.

If you get the correct low viscosity ("super-wetting") super glue, you don't need to wipe - surface tension is your friend.
