Hey everyone, I was able to cast one of these on a recent trip and kind of fell in love with it, since my trip I've been looking to buy one but haven't seen one come up for sale. It was a faster action which appealed to me.

Are there any other rods I should be on the lookout for if I liked that rod? If anyone has personal experience with the Scott in question, id love to hear of some thoughts on it from someone who's owned one for a while.

I got a custom 7' black Scott 3wt. From Rodny Bo a couple of years ago and while most people think it is better with a 4 I found it to be a very lovely rod with a SA Mastery series trout DT 3.I caught my biggest cutbow on a streamer with that rod a 22"er.I put it in my small Scott collection so it gets used very seldom along with my 5 PC. 7' 4 wt. 1994 anniversary Scott another one I am really found of, and if you liked the 7' black you would go nuts over the Anniversary for sure.........Aurelio

Thanks for the feedback Aurelio! I will add the anniversary rod to my watchlist as well.

Have you cast the orvis superfine glass 703-3? On paper it's similar to the Scott I'm looking for.

You may have a hard time finding that one too. Orvis replaced it with a 7’6” 3-weight a while back.

I have owned both the Scott F703/3 and the Orvis SFG 7' 3wt. Of the two, I enjoyed the Scott much better. I sold both, after realizing I like the added benefits a 4wt brings to the table. I still own a Scott F754/3, which is one of my favorite all-around rods...
I have also owned several of the Scott F2's in various lengths and line weights. For my casting stroke I have liked the black F's much better.

They had one in the orvis shop in Chicago, I asked if it was medium action, and they told me "it's wiggily" I stopped asking questions.

This is great info, thanks! I think I'll hold out for the 3, as I have some 5wts for streamers, I think that Scott 3 will do everything I need short of articulated streamers. I have bigger rods for the junk.

The 2pc fibertouch in 7' 3wt and 7'6" 4wt are IMHO even more magical than the 3pc blanks. Obviously lighter and sure, a little less portable, but they're just a hair more mellow than the 3pc blanks. Credit to Scott, though, as their attention to blank design has those 2- and 3-pc fibertouches almost identical in action. I own a maroon F703/2 and black F754/2, and they both get a lot of use.

sorry to hijack slightly but on a related note there's a Scott F552/3 5'5'' #2 3 piece rod for sale in the uk, black blank.
I've tried to find some reviews on it but can't find any, has anyone used this rod?

Aurelio,

Your maroon anniversary rod was the 20th anniversary commemorative edition. But yes, Scott did the F703 and F754 plus a F794 (7"10" 4wt 4pc) in maroon S glass. Also the F803 for the Japanese market and the 7' 4wt 5pc anniversary rod.

If you ever want to borrow my maroon F703 2pc, let me know! Either that or I'll come out to one of your gatherings and bring along my Scott lightline collection (yellow F60, brown F65, yellow F70/5, yellow F74, brown F75, brown F79, maroon F703/2, black F754/2).

The 794 and 7' 4wt 5 piece are great fishing rods and really all that's needed to cover small and medium water.
