I'm just about ready to start buying components for my new rod, and I'm curious about something. I'm thinking of the Lamiglas honey colored blank in a 7 1/2, 3 piece, 3 weight. What I'm wondering is do you folk with experience with this stick think it will handle a WF4F line OK? Any experience advice I can garner would be great. This is a big cash outlay for old Lotech Joe, and I want to do it right the first time.
Thanks Ahead,

I know the 7 1/2 foot 4wt is popular around here and I like it too but of the Lamiglas honey line, I like the 7' 3wt the best. I think the 7' 3wt Lami is a true 3 wt but certainly you can overline it with a 4wt for close up work. It's one of the very best values in fly rods today regardless of whether it's glass, grass, graphite, or whatever. I like the 2pc a little better than the 3pc but they are so close and the 3pc is much more packable. I'd probably choose the 3pc over the 2pc too.

The Lami 7 foot, 3 weight will cast beautifully with a WF4 line.

Really? A four weight line, eh? I'll certainly have to try it on mine. That rod is so nice and slow I thought it might be to much for it.

If you want a true 7' 4wt,I can cut down one of my one piece 7'6'' Lami blanks for you. I can make it 2,3 or 4 piece for you.

I fished a WF4F on my 6'6" 2pc 3wt Lami this weekend and it worked great. Granted I was fishing out of a kayak and most casts were about 20 feet. Still, roll casts were smooth and easy and I could pick up 15' of line and shoot 5' with one backcast and it was effortless.

HTH,

Lou

But Lou, you'll have to admit that is one soft fly rod. Have you tried it with a really light line like a 0 wt or 1 wt. I sold a couple of the Spring Creek versions of it this spring and the guys seem really pleased with them with 3 wts, but I think if I used one I would try a 2 wt. Has anyone fished one of them with a lighter line who could share his experience with it.

I tried a 4wt on mine 2pc and got 40' ez. Go for it.

Dave, I will try a 1 wt tomorrow. Interesting thought.

4wt.? I hear the Lami 7'6" is a great 4wt. I don't think I'd like the 7' #3 with a 4wt. It's fairly soft ... just an opinion. Need a 7' #4? Did you consider a 7' 3/4 Riffle for $75? It fishes well with a WF4.

I decided on the 7 1/2' , 3 piece, 4 weight. I haven't fished it yet and don't plan on fishing it till next summer when I can take it to the St. Joe in Idaho. I'd much rather christen it with a west slope cutthroat from the St. Joe than with a northern pike minnow from my local river.

Very cool! A super build Joe. Is that a decal you made or do you use dry transfers?

Joe, your rod is absolutely beautiful and the reel seat is about as good as it gets - congratulations. Thanks for the photos. Duff

Thanks for the accolades. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out.
I work for a label company and I had one of the folk I work with print it up for me. It's printed on a transparent polyester label, and she says it won't come off when submerged. We'll see.

Joe,
Super build. That particular blank is really popular on this board. I hope you like it!
