I am looking for input/suggestions on 2wt fly lines. This is new territory for me in fly line class.

I have done some reading in the archives and still haven't been able to pin down a line yet. I see a lot of recommendations for the Barrio small stream but that size is not currently available to order.

Fishing will be a mix of pond panfish and some occasional brookie water where accuracy might be beneficial.

Any thoughts from experienced ultralight fly fishers appreciated.

If you are looking for a double taper, there are two currently available in that size that come to mind: S.A. Mastery and 406 (which is also made by S.A.) I have not tried either of them personally. Until recently Cortland made their Classic 444 Peach line in a DT2F, but I no longer see it listed on their website. I picked one up BNIB in the classified from Brian Shaffer a week or two ago. I’d check with him if you’re interested in that particular line. He seems to have two or three of everything.

I have a WF2 Cortland Sylk on My Kabuto 662 and I like it quite a bit. I mainly fish dries with it along with an occasional dropper.

Thanks for the input. I have not decided whether or not I would go with a DT or a WF line yet. Was just looking at the Orvis Hydros Super fine on their site which is $20 off right now. Still looking though...

I use a 406 DT2F on my Barclay 66 and I like it a lot, much better than the Rio Lightline.

I don't know anything about the quality of the line, but Stone Creek Ltd. has their 1 and 2 weight lines marked down from $45 to $15. A better bet might be the Scientific Anglers Mastery GPX line in WF2 from Madison River Fishing Company for $19.95.

Larry I saw the deal on the Stone Creek lines but for some reason they wouldn't add to cart so they might be sold out.

I was using the Rio Lightline and was displeased with it too. I’ve since replaced it with the Cortland Peach DT2F but haven’t had a chance to fish it yet. I’ll report back here once I do.

I own one 2 wt. What I have discovered is I don't particularly like 2wts.

However, the line I like is the line I like on every rod I own, Sci-Angler Mastery DT.

My favorite of all I've tried is the 406 DT2. Excellent in every aspect.

I'm fishing the wf2wt airflo elite floating, its a nice line, I need a bit of distance, which it does and nice presentation, so much so I bought a wf3wt.

If you are referring to me I have not posted this question previously on another forum. I did mention it in another discussion here if that is what you are referring too. If so sorry to bother you?

Then please take my apology as I thought you were someone else expecting different answers to the same questions .

Chris and Salvelineus thank you for the recommendation on the 406DT I had not realized that 406 offered a DT line. And Chris knowing how much small water brookie fishing you do that is a good solid endorsement. I will look into it.

Again I do appreciate all the input. Seems one big decision will be whether I go with a DT or WF. Might have to try one of each in the end to determine what works best for me.

If you go with a DT you can turn it around when one end gets funky . I actually cut them in half on my 0wt's and 1wt's and tie in cheap pvc running line from china .

Interesting...how do you attach the running line to the back of the fly line?

I just use a blood knot with uv glue to keep it smooth . Don't really need the glue tho .

Ron do you ever cast into the running line that way with those light lines? Wondering why not just go straight to backing after cutting.

I can but it's not a normal occurrence . I just prefer the feel of the pvc over the dacron .

Just to follow up for anyone following along I went to the local fly shop and there was not much to choose from in that line size so that dictated the choice. It was between two lines and I went with the Scientific Anglers Trout WF2. I do plan on getting a DT later to try also so I am thinking I will order the 406DT. That might be for next season. We will see how I like this one to start.

I have all the 2 wt. lines I need but noticed that BassProShop/Cabelas sells a 45 ft. DT 2 wt for $20 as part of their small stream series. I haven’t yet used the 4 wt I bought but have heard good things if the length works for you; brookies I’d be happy with the length, but ponds probably want a full length line.

I got out and fished the line last evening for an hour and do like it though it has a bit of sound to it when stripping which I found unusual. Managed a kind of 2wt slam getting a golden shiner, pumpkinseed and a yellow perch.

Managed one nice bass that put a heck of a bend in the rod.
