Well, a family heirloom was passed my way. A St Croix Glass rod. looks in good shape, but needs 2 guides put on. I can't tell what weight it is, but will need Pearow, or Barry to help fix her up. Bud, if I get it your way, can you hook me up? Let me know if anyone knows if this is a good rod.
Thanks, Russell

Hadn't ever heard of a St Croix Glass Rod? Would be curious though.

Russell,

There were some nice St Croix glass rods built in the 60s and 70s. Some of them have that cool translucent look.

How long is the rod? What does it say on the label? Some of the St Croix had the line information printed in small black letters, so it might be hard to read without a LOT of light.

A few years ago, I was given a St. Croix Imperial glass rod. It was a 9 footer and because I was blindly into graphite at the time, I gave it to Orvis for youth fly fishing classes. When I was in St. Regis Montana a couple of weeks ago, I saw a St. Croix 4 piece 9 footer on the wall at the fly fishing Pro Shop. It had a for sale sign on it for $75 and all I had was $9. St. Croix has always made great rods and they are a family owned outfit. I wish I could have both those rods. Mine back and the one on the wall for a new one. Oh well, kids need quailty equipment to learn with too. Besides, I have a pretty darned fine first rod to work with for a while. My new Fenwick FF755 should keep me busy for a long time. In answer to your question; Yes, it's a good rod! Keep it and fix it up. If you don't want to do that, you can send it to me and I'll disposition it for you.

I received a St. Croix the other day and it ended up having a broken tip, too far down to repair I think or shorten, so I have a bunch of parts that you might be able to use. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you some pictures of the rod that I have -

I like mine, a 7090 XL. A sweet 7' 6 wt.

I have one. Mines marked 9000 SP 7' 6" and D HDH. Very small black print on a brown blank. You'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. Mine only has 5 guides and the stripping guide was a large snake. I say "was" because it (stripping guide) needed to be rewrapped and I replaced it with a 9mm Muldrun (sp) stainless. Haven't fished it. Just lawn cast it. Works fine with a DT 6
