Can anyone recommend 6 ft long good fiberglass rod in 4 to 6 wt? I looking for rod much shorter than my Epic 476 and at least so strong.

Regards,

Jan

Berkley Parametric a 6'3" is money with a 6wt. I fish dries through streamers with mine and it's a little pocket rocket (as I'm sure a few on here will attest to).

I can't compare it to your Epic, but I have a 6 ft Philipson from the late 60's to early 70s that is a good 5-6 wt. It is the metal ferule model.

I've had the Berkley Curt Gowdy Parametric in the 6' 3" 6 weight, and it was indeed a pocket rocket. Another nice 6 footer in 6 weight is the Phillipson Royal Wand which I still have. Also have a "tadpole" rod built on a Batson Foremost spinning blank, 6' in length, 5/6 weight. This is also a nice short rod that casts very smoothly and I had no difficulty in bringing in a 10# carp with it.

Most of the older rods were at least 5wts even in the shorter lengths so plenty of choices there. If you like your CTS why not ask CTS to make you a custom blank with the action and length you want?

It sounds like you want a tadpole, a 5/6 e-glass fly rod built on a 6 ft. spin rod blank like the Batson spg720. Locally, you might want to find a 6 ft., e-glass ultra light spin rod blank designed for 2-4, or 2-6 lb. spin line for light lures. Have someone local build it out for you as a fly rod. It is surprising what nice fly rods many ultra light spin blanks make.

I built a number of them in one, or 2 piece. I built them for tight places where you might hook 12-16 in. and bigger fish, or for guys who like to fish heavier lines than the little 2 and 3 weight small stream rods.

A Browning Silaflex 322960, 6 ft 5 weight is a stout 6 footer, but finding one might be tough as they seem to be rare.

Garcia-Conolon "Lee Wulff" 6' one-piece 6wt.

Folks try and characterize this rod as a 4wt. - but it really isn't and was never meant to be.

There were a BIG batch of NOS blanks that sold several years ago, that many Forum members bought, and built-out custom.
Maybe posting a WTB in our Wanted section might turn one up?
(the factory Wulff's in this config are pretty rare...)

Built up one of these from a blank I found. Haven't fished it yet but just holding it I can tell it's gonna be great I wonder if Steffen could make up something in that range?

Lots of good advise from those that posted above, Archfly (John) recommendation on the Batson spg720 blank is a great option if you are looking for an inexpensive build. I have cast one of his, it performs very well for its intended use.

Another option if you are looking for a higher end blank, CTS, while it may not show up on their site as an offering, they can roll it. I have had them make me several custom tapers over the years. Just email them. I recently had them make me a 7ft 5wt for the same type of fishing.

Thanks guys for all the advice. I found SPG780 in robulding shop in my town. It cost 100 pln - about 25$, so I'll try to make "tadpole". Thanks

I use mine on narrow creeks that have deep under cut banks, places are just to tight for rods longer than 7ft, and where a 2 to 4wt would lack the power to cast a heavy streamer pattern. While my 7ft is rated for a 5wt, it handles a 6wt line much better for casts under 25ft. Plus having a stout 5 or 6wt and you encounter a large brown over 16 inches, you have the rod power to end the battle quickly.

High gradient pocket water and/or big fish in tight places and/or large flies in tight places.
