[ No. You uploaded completely different images to FFR. These were only 320x240px and contained EXIF information telling the "reader" that it should be oriented landscape (top left). Clearly the images you uploaded to Imgur were larger (and these contain NO EXIF information at all). Uploading the correct images works just fine, as you can see. ]

jrod88,

I have one of the new Abel TR's. I attempted to put it on the FS583. There would need to be adjustments to the cork for the slide band to fit. Hopefully that helps. Thankfully, the Abel TR fits and balances another rod perfectly for me.

Penn_troutbum81,

Thanks for that. It probably has the same foot as my CFO. Might have to get an FS663, dang it.

The CFO reel looks like it does not meet the reel foot standard. Maybe give Scott a call and ask if other reels might fit? Perhaps they know how to make things work for you. It's easier to change cork than a machined reel foot.

I had a Scott 7033,black blank, that the previous owner modified so a TR would fit under the ring, he gouged out some of the cork. It wasn' t pretty. I'd look for an Islander 2 or a Hardy reel. There are a lot of other options. It's also a great excuse to buy a new reel.

The foot problems with the Abel made CFO's have been discussed on several forums. Unlike the earlier versions of the CFO, with thin feet, the Abel models have a thick foot and a sharper angle on the top. I have older CFO's, and they fit every banded reel seat in my arsenal. The Able version fits only in my locking seats, and even then it's not a great fit in some of them. Even if you reduce the cork, you still have to deal with the angled top of the foot, and you might have to find some swaged or tapered bands to give you a good fit.

Good luck with your project!

Frog,

The goal is to buy a TR from Livingwaters, a Texas themed collaboration. I have reels on everything, but would like to fit one these Abels on a 3wt.

Replevin,

The CFO issue is nothing new, I just didn’t know if newer Abels shared the same foot geometry or happened to updated with shallower/longer feet, which it appears they haven’t updated them.

Might me a moot point by now, but I too can attest that the reel feet on the new Abel TR reels are fairly steep. I've never tried to mount one on a slide-band Scott reel seat, but I had trouble even mounting a new TR 4/5 on my factory-built Tom Morgan 7' 4wt. They are just thick, steep reel feet, unfortunately. They work great on some rods, but there are others they just won't fit, or would look ugly on, IMHO.
