These 7'6" rods are listed as a 3wt. The previous 7'6" Eagle Claws were 5/6wt, does anyone know what the actual status of this rod is? Thanks.

The Eagle Claw Crafted Glass Rod is a sharp looking rod. You'll probably hear differing reports about line weights. As for me, I found it to work well with the listed 3 weight line. For fishing in close quarters, it seems to prefer a 4 weight line.

The Crafted Glass are a different beast than the Featherlite series. They still do s 5/6 7'6" featherlite, the Crafted Glass stuff seems faster action, and noticeably heavier.

Mac is correct. The featherlights are great rods for the money. the Crafted one i handled just didn't feel right for me,especially as a 3wt.If they didn't look like a cheap eagle claw from walmart they would have more of a following.I will take one over a cgr any day.Could not believe how well it cast. Not pretty but you could buy 3 for less than a cgr, which i feel is just to soft. The cgr is very good looking tho.

How would you describe the action? I have seen it described as parabolic, perhaps in advertising, and I'd like to know if you agree with that.

I haven't seen where the EC Crafted fly rod is described as parabolic. My 7' 6" rod weighs in at 3.9 ounces, exactly the same as my 7' Featherlight. Rather hefty for a 3/4 weight rod, but not objectionably so when paired with a balanced reel. I found that a Medalist 1494 balances it nicely.

The EC Crafted fly rod casts smoothly and roll casts rather well, even with a 3 weight; but if roll-casts were the norm, I would go with the 4 weight. I've used the rod primarily as a 3 weight, fishing small ponds where I am occasionally making 40-50 foot casts.

EDIT: The Crafted fly rod is labeled as Parabolic right on the rod.

Just an update well Amazon blew it I received my package yesterday. My eagleclaw featherweight somehow turned into a coffee table. In the mean time I found an LL bean 6773 8 ft 6 wt I paid 15 bucks for it Does anyone have info on these ? I've been over the site and found some things

Ok I’m taking I’mg your advice. The EC CGR 3WT arrives tomorrow and I found a beautiful Medalist 1494 (mint condition) on eBay. I’ll be using it for small creeks and ponds in FL so I’ll go with a 4wt Double Taper and then revisit if I head up to Western NC.

You can almost count on it being at least a 4wt, if not a 5wt in reality.

I also purchased this rod. It was heavier then the designated line weight and I would also describe it as a club haha. It worked fine as a bass rod. I gave it away to a friend who seems to really enjoy it however so hopefully you will too!

Good luck!

I wonder ... if the rod in question actually is a parabolic, could that make it feel clubby to those of us who are more used to progressive action rods?

If the rods were truly parabolic, they would feel like they collapse when the caster tries unfortunately power through the softer mid section, instead of letting the rod work. If it feels like a club, it's probably just an overly stiff club.

Parabolic or not its the worst rod I own . When I started back in the 70s I had a yellow EC and loved it till it left me so I bought this one for nostalgic purposes , not even in the same league .

Have any of you guys tried a DT 4 wt on this rod? I threw a Cortland Peach 444 DT on my EC Crafted Glass and I thought it cast very nice? Laid the fly down like it was landing on a pillow (# 12 bass popper).

+1 agree with this. Parabolic rods require me to slow down and pay attention. I've had overly stiff progressive rods that stiffen up fast, and because of the swing weight feel clubbish.

I think the Crafted Glass is much slower than my 8’ Featherlight. A spaghetti noodle maybe but certainly not a club. I’m getting the hang of it and distance is improving.
