I haven't seen where the EC Crafted fly rod is described as parabolic. My 7' 6" rod weighs in at 3.9 ounces, exactly the same as my 7' Featherlight. Rather hefty for a 3/4 weight rod, but not objectionably so when paired with a balanced reel. I found that a Medalist 1494 balances it nicely.
The EC Crafted fly rod casts smoothly and roll casts rather well, even with a 3 weight; but if roll-casts were the norm, I would go with the 4 weight. I've used the rod primarily as a 3 weight, fishing small ponds where I am occasionally making 40-50 foot casts.
EDIT: The Crafted fly rod is labeled as Parabolic right on the rod.
Ok I’m taking I’mg your advice. The EC CGR 3WT arrives tomorrow and I found a beautiful Medalist 1494 (mint condition) on eBay. I’ll be using it for small creeks and ponds in FL so I’ll go with a 4wt Double Taper and then revisit if I head up to Western NC.
