As stated in the thread topic, what fly shops do forum members know that stock new glass? Do they have Echo, Redington Butterstick, Orvis Superfine Glass, Hardy, Scott, T&T, Eagle Claw, Cabela's, small builder, other? For shops that stock glass, let's give them some love (or business, which will make them happier). With all the new glass hitting the market, buying an in stock rod (or ordering one) from a fly shop should be more accessible than the past. Remember, this is the EASY option in the Glass Fanatic's Buying Guide. Take advantage of EASY when you can!

Please list shops that you personally know that carry glass - shop name, location, and brand(s) in stock. Additional information is helpful, such as whether or not they allow test casting and who is the shop guy most likely to have knowledge. Website links are good if you have them. If they also carry a small rack of consignment/used rods in the back corner, please mention that too.

I'll get it rolling. These three shops probably don't carry the whole model line, but should have enough to whet your appetite.

Great Outdoor Provision Company, Chapel Hill, NC, they carry the Butterstick and do allow test casting. Ask for Jim Coveney.

K&K Fly Fishers, Overland Park, KS, they carry Echo, they allow test casting, and they do mail order. Ask for Kevin, but the whole staff is good. Excellent selection of tying materials too.

Rainbow Fly Shop, Independence, MO, they also carry Echo and will mail order. Good selection of tying materials.

Tom

[Note added 3/4 - I pinned this thread to the top of this section. Lots of good posts already - please keep it rolling! Tom]

Superfine glass rods.
You can take them outside, (with sales staff), and cast any model rod on the grass.

Smoky Mtn Angler fly shop - Gatlinburg, TN
Redington Butterstick, Echo glass

Little River Outfitters - Townsend, TN
Orvis Superfine glass

I work PT at Orvis and would love to have you come by, talk fly fishing, and cast the new Superfine Glass rods. My favorite is the 7'6" 4wt!

I am friends with the guys at Smoky Mtn Angler and Little River Outfitters. All good people and they will let you cast rods also.
Come enjoy the Great Smoky Mtns , visit us at the shops, and fish the local streams.

They carry the entire Echo glass line, and will let you cast any and all models. They also carry Thomas and Thomas and just started carrying Redington.

Kevin and Tommy both are great guys and very knowledgeable about fiberglass and fly fishing in general.

Scott and Echo glass. Can test cast out back. This is the first place I'd ever seen and casted a Kabuto from Mat's (the shop owner) collection.

The Avid Angler in Lake Forrest Park, WA has had Scott glass rods in the past. I've recently seen Redington Buttersticks at Patrick's Fly Shop and the Outdoor Emporium which are both in Seattle.

The Orvis Store in Roseville CA has (or had) the Superfine glass rods in stock. They were great about letting me casting the one rod they had at the time. The 7'6" 4 wt.

Mossy Creek Fly Fishing in Harrisonburg, Va., carries Scott F2, Orvis Superfine Glass and the Redington Buttersticks, although the web site doesn't include the latter 2 yet. I picked up the Orvis 7-6 4wt there and it is smooth as silk. http://mossycreekflyfishing.com/

The Bears Den in Taunton MA

It has an indoor casting facility in the back of the shop to test its extensive line up of rods.

I was there this evening and they had all the new Orvis Superfine glass, The New Redington Butter Sticks, the new Echo glass, and the Scott glass rods.

If you're asking ...

Leland Fly Fishing Outfitters
Sonoma, CA
www.lelandfly.com

We stock:
Scott F2 Series (We keep the 663 on hand, any other length/weight is a 3-5 day special order)
Red Truck Glass 7' 6" 4wt 3pc
Leland Sierra Nevada 7' 6" 4wt 6pc
For comparison we always have a Butterstick on hand (not for sale)
Check weekly for a 7-day, no-reserve auction on anything traded in. http://stores.ebay.com/Leland-Fly-Fishing-Outfitters

Anyone is welcome to cast the rods with varying lines and take a Red Truck or Leland for a "test drive" for a few days.

The Reno Fly shop is going to open back up in mid/late April under new management and will be carrying Reddington Buttersticks. They will also very likely have a small run of a few locally wrapped glass rods and maybe even some cane. The shop is opening up in a new location with a park around a 100 yards away with the Truckee river flowing through it, filled with finicky fish as long as your leg.
