How is Blue Dun to deal with? I went to their site looking for Fenwicks and they seem to have a few.

My Kabuto 6623 is nice and crisp with a DT2 and smooth with a 3. I'm looking forward to trying another of his rods.

Anybody ever bought one of those “yellow Fenwicks” you see on Blue Dun? That Little Sally model looks very interesting.

Another great maker of Japanese fly rods is Blue Heron. Graywolf recently started building on his blanks. Masayuki (who runs Blue Heron) makes some beautiful glass blanks including a very unique swelled butt fiberglass rod. I have pics on my phone that I can post later. My rod is a 6'6" 3 piece swelled butt 3wt. Fit and finish of the blank itself was excellent. Would highly recommend to others!

I've never needed one, they received rave reviews on FFR for the past 15 years.

Blue Dun is a pleasure to deal with for just about anything. I have bought numerous rods from them over the years and never had a problem. Quick shipping to the US also.

What I like is that Japanese builders know how to make the grip & seat length proportionally right.
No fat 7 inch grips on a 6.5ft #3 rod :rolleyes

Might as well add a photo to this Japanese glass rod thread - Ijuin Imogi and Kineya Cavous.

Japanese glass is not Japanese glass until you pair it with a Kineya reel. There is a complete symbiosis when you do that...

Brian:
That Quiet Loop is definitely a sweet rod. I need to break mine out and fish it again. Don't know why I haven't fished it more in the last couple of years; guess I have too many 3 weights.

Rather than opening a new topic, I'll just add here.

Two weeks ago I was in Tokyo for a few days. I visited Tsuruya fly shop.

Nice post Jay. I enjoyed reading that. I love Japanese stuff. My friend Michio from Shima Nets made me an awesome custom net for fishing the Henry’s Fork. It’s a larger net but it is as light as my old Brodin Cutthroat net. I asked him to add “markers” from 15 to 24 inches on the net. He parqueted the wood and added little wood inserts. Pretty cool in my opinion. I also got one for my wife for Christmas a few years ago as well. The net is one of my prized possessions. This is a little of topic too, but I thought folks might enjoy it.

Wonderful nets for sure!
Those tiny Yamame size nets were so cute. I should have bought one! Well next time...

Love the post on Tsuruya fly shop! Beautiful looking shop. I have added to my list of things to do when I visit Japan some day. Thank you for sharing.

I have my rods built with tiny measurement wraps at 15 and 20 inches.

Just my preference.

You may not have the net with you, but you’ll always have your rod..

Enjoyable thread and read. I love my Japanese Glass, and the "Creme de la Creme" is my Yomogi 7' 3wt followed closely with my Kab 8033. High marks for my Kab 662, Fenwick/Tiemco Yellow Diamond 4wt and 7' 3wt Feelex.

Some days it just hard to choose which one to grab.

Japanese rods, whether custom made or factory made, have this attention to detail and (grip) proportions.
Especially this last thing is so much more appealing than the 7 inch grips on 3 weight rods from American brands.
