Utfly, are you saying that your friend, Yamashiro-san, is the maker of the Axisco rods? If so, could you add any details about the glass blanks?

the Yen continues to drop - the current exchange of JY 118 to the $ is the best exchange I have ever seen - it's a great time to buy from Japan.

Between Duff and Bulldog I'm doomed.

I just placed an order with Noppin for a rod.
Duff, I here that there are Scott Japan specials around. I think that model number is F2-723 / 4JS.

I'm patiently (ok not so patiently) waiting for a Tiemco Glassmaster 793-5 NSF and a line to match it.

No, I'm referring to Tsuruya in Tokyo. His is one of the first shops in Japan. The rods he makes are the "glass feel" rods.

Carlz, that Tiemco looks pretty nice, based upon the few photos I could find. I hope you'll tell us more, when it arrives.

I was looking on the Blue Dun site and noticed they now have a yellow Fenwick 3 series. They're all 3wt rods and all are 4 pieces.

I wonder how they compare to the last batch? I sold my FF79-5 and kinda regret it. I've been trying to find a 3 or 4wt used, but I've not found one. This may be my only chance, but I'd love to find out if the new ones are similar to the older ones.

You will love that one, ARR. Absolutely agree with Bulldog on the roll casting. It's a very smooth true three-weight.

While this thread is still current, I'll add another Japanese glass rod, the North Country Anglers The Sons "Onzu" - a progressive 7'6" #3/4. It seems to be a tribute to a late Leonard right down to the blue foil label on the tube.

Here's my long gone Fenwick Continental Tourer (7.3ft #4).

I sold the rod to Christian and he sold it again.
Wonder where it is staying now?...

btw, the yen is still holding at 120 to the $, making Japan shopping a steal.
It's even like shipping is on sale.

I did not sell that rod, buddy... ;)

I recently aquired a Takada 7', 3wt. Ablecane showed me his when we met in July, and Blue Dun helped me out with placing an order. Maybe I have to shoot some pics? :)

Oops, don't know why/how but in my memory I had this message that you sold it to a friend.
Well, good to know it's in good hands! :)

Just acquired an Ijuin Yomogi 7'3" 4wt beautifully built by Chris Barclay from a forum member. I have to say I was surprised by the action. These rods are always described as soft and semi parabolic or parabolic but the 7'3" is a medium fast progressive, also comfortable with a 5wt and quite powerful. It casts and fishes extremely well, the kind of rod that gives fish no hope at all once hooked. Feels nicely substantial and I suspect many of its virtues come from having a little more mass than strictly necessary.

Christian,

I'm waiting for a Takada photo :-) 3pc? Special?
It also caught my attention. But the last thing I need is another 3wt rod.

Rehashing an old post due to recent purchase of a 7’ 4wt glass ufm super pulser. Very crisp and precise with tight loops, almost aggressive. The only other Japanese glass I have are a 6’6” 6 piece airrite and a 6’3” norie flex tailor. The norie is the most delicate action I own and amazing feel for fish under six inches on mountain brooks. Never used it for larger fish but sure it would be challenging fun. I’d be interested in hearing others thoughts on these rods.
Also... Does this count as rule of three?

I can't believe in all the years I have been on this forum that I missed this thread. When I started thinking about it I have four Japanese built rods. My first was the first glass rod I purchased when I first signed up for this forum in January, 2007, a Tiemco built Fenwick Classic Glass, the FF756-4J. A few years later I picked up an Axisco Airrite Stream 7'6" 6 piece 3 weight which has already been well described here. Then I found an Old Beech Quiet Loop, a 7'6" 3 weight which I believe is an S-glass rod that is definitely faster than the Axisco. The last one is an Ijuin Yomogi 7' 3 weight. These are all very nice rods. The Japanese definitely have a knack for building nice rods.

I've fished this Kabuto 8033 for two seasons with a 406 DT 3wt line...casts where and how I want and fights fish into the butt for a quick release.

Kab built the rod to my specs, longer "Garrison" grip , blank color, wraps and hardware...outstanding piece of work!

Beautiful build and sounds like a dream to fish. Form and function.

I forgot to post my Tiemco Glass Master I bought in in 2019
Very much like a Winston Stalker grip, I like it a lot.
Still not fished due to Covid etc.
