Lunker, I agree. The Fenwick Voyagers are smooth rods, as well as the Lami's. I'll add the multi piece original Diamondglass rods and most anything by James Green.

To this very complete list, I have to add the Barclay Synthesis 8’2” 4/5 4pc. The ease with which it throws tight loops is, to me, astounding.

9' T L Johnson E S 7wt, this has to be the smoothest fly rod I have ever used, was hesitant buying it but liked the 4wt T L Johnson I have I took a gamble on it. It's really a shame these are no longer produced.

Smooth may be more subjective than slow or fast but my smoothest glass rod is a ********* 8'6", 3 piece, 3 wt that Dusty built on a CTS(?) blank...a close 2nd is a Larry Kenney 6 wt built on a 8'6"on a 2 piece Fisher blank.

The slowest Smooooooooth rod: Hardy Perfection 4wt. You can drink a cup of coffee waiting for the back cast to straighten out. Significantly slower than anything I've cast short of the Studio ThinLine and I think the Perfection might have it beat.

I'm too impatient for these slow rods now.

7' Wonderods are my current favorite, smooth effortless casting and not as finicky with line as my phillipsons.

I think that the smoothest glass rod I own is probably an 8 foot 5 weight I built on a McFarland Spruce Creek blank (yellow). Also very smooth are a 7'6" 2/3 weight on a Steffen blank, a 7 foot 9" 4 weight on a Paddock butterscotch blank, an 8 foot 4 weight on a Diamondglass black blank, an 8 foot 5 weight Orvis Fullflex, and a 9 foot 6 weight Winston. I consider the 8 footers as all-around rods for small to medium sized waters and the Winston to be just plain good for all trout rivers.

Was finally (briefly!) able to fish the Paddock 836 I built. I’d put this one in the smooth category

Bingo. Actually, you could name about any Fisher in the more common configurations. I couldn't decide which is smoother among the four I use most, each a different length and line weight. Progressive actions are, almost by definition, smooth. That is the whole idea.

very good point, it's tough to say progressive taper without also saying smooth - smooth progressive taper
That makes just about any Fisher, glass or graphite, or any Phillipson, a great candidate.
If light-in-hand graphite spinning rods get to play, any 9' or longer Lamiglas ML-rated steelhead rod - if you have a place to cast a long way.

Yup. My 8'3" 5wt Winston/Fisher is my smoothest casting rod. Transitioning from short, to medium, to long cast is like driving a high end car with a smooth transmission. No hiccups between gears.

Small stream: Barclay 70p. Nuf said.

Mid weight: ********* 866. Redefines delicacy in the 6 wt category.

Heavy weight: Fisher 8’8” 8 wt 3 piece I hacked and ferruled from a 9’2” master blank. Awesome power and accuracy and oh, so smooth!

Heirloom 763 and McFarland 773 yellow glass. Mike's beats the T&T by an RCH.

Smoothest Glass Rod? My 8' 4wt. Morgan era Tom Morgan Rodsmiths. It doesn't get much smoother than this one. It casts like silk.

I have enjoyed many of the Tom Morgan Rodsmiths glass rods and have yet to cast one that wasn’t smooth:). My favorite is also a 8’ 4wt build on a Morgan era blank. I have a good friend building out a post Tom Morgan era 8’ 5wt (McFarland rolled blank) and I have no doubt that it will give the 8’4wt a good run for the money as “smoothest”. I casted the rod at the Marlborough show last winter and couldn’t wipe the silly grin on my face all day and had to buy a blank.
Fred Paddock’s Signature series also seem to be in my wheelhouse of taper preferences (smooth, intuitive, progressive medium) but the 8’3” 6wt is the standout for me as smoothest 6wt glass trout taper rod.
I would have to add my Barclay limited edition 75p, Kabuto 7’6” 4wt, Ijuin 7’ 3wt, Graywolf 8’3” 3wt “the Natural” and Mcfarland 8’6” 5wt Limestone taper as exceptionally smooth glass fly rods for my trout fishing.

While I've already said that my ********* 8'6" 3 wt is my smoothest glass rod, my 8'9" 5 wt ********* has been the most impressive...getting a guide on the Missouri to shout over any over, "Look at the bend in the rod" when I was landing several 20+ inch fish provided feedback on the fighting and lifting ability of well engineered and built glass over graphite (most of which would break when doubled over to quickly land and release large fish.
