Check out Bob Selb's site (http://www.classicflyfisherman.com). He has some neat stuff for sale. I especially like the Walt Carpenter glass rods. He also has some old Fenwick yellow glass for around $100 along with a Fisher glass rod for around $225. Jay

I've hijacked Jay's thread to start a listing of vintage tackle dealers that routinely handle glass rods. Please post with your favorite dealers. Tom

Note added 12/10/22, I've checked and updated (or deleted) the links in this thread. Several of the dealers have either passed away or closed shop. Others still have websites, but it is difficult to tell if the site is truly active. Please call/email to ensure any given piece of tackle is still in stock. If anyone knows additional dealers that are not on the list yet, please add them to the thread. Tom

Other than Bob Selb, Martin Keane (unfortunately Martin Keane passed away in 2009), Rick's Rods (http://www.ricksrods.com), or Len Codella (unfortunately Len Codella passed away in 2020), who else do we know that deals with vintage glass rods? There's a similar listing over at Clarks, but those guys are cane rod dealers. While some of the usual suspects sell both, who else is out there?

Tom

Three more that have catalogs only are Jim Adams of Adams Angling in Berkeley,CA (adamsanglingbooks.com). Jim puts out an outstanding book catalog and a great rod/reel catalog, separately (Jim no longer produces catalogs, but does now have a website - Tom).

Another fine dealer is Bob Corsetti of Rods and Reels in New Hampshire (unfortunately, Bob Corsetti passed away in 2022 - Tom).

Another one is Carmine Lisella of the Jordan Mills Rod Co. at (jordan-millsrodco.com) (Carmine no longer produces catalogs, but does now have a website - Tom).

All three are friendly, honest, and fair. I have bought glass rods from all three. One time I bought a rod many years ago from Carmine, I can't remember what glass rod it was I was buying at the time, but he said I have an old glass Phillipson Scout with a broken tip I'll give you for free! You know, I still have it, it's about 7'2" and I still like to fish it. I've got to put a new tip on it one of these days! Their catalogs come out once or twice a season.

Found another site to spend your dough. Langs Store at www.langsstore.com. I don't know if this has been posted before, but every other Tuesday starting at 9pm they have new listings of tackle. Jay

[The Langs Store website is gone. But the langsauction.com website is still active. Tom]

Tom,

I recently visited Rick's Rods in person (they are in Denver) and it was just full of shelves and shelves of rods and blanks in the back. Rick's Rods (ricksrods.com).

Rick is a very personable person and took time to show me around. Was able to cast the new/old stock Phillipson Master 6/7 and it was a pretty sweet rod. Did well down to 4wt line. At 3wt, it was not so effective. Also got to see the new/oldstock Phillipson Epoxite registered series. Nicely done as well.

For those visiting the metro Denver area, I'd encourage you to call and drop by. He doesn't keep normal business hours, so do call ahead to make sure someone is there.

cheers

How about this guy, Earl Grant of Earl's Antique Fishing Tackle - fishingcollectables.com/

I think that I found about him from this site. Anyway, I have never bought from him. Just thought I'd add his site to the list.

... Try Jonas Price at The Feathered Hook ... I've never seen him list glass rods on-line with his vintage bamboo or place them out on the shop racks ... BUT every time I go down there (I go frequently) he'll have a half dozen in his office in tubes or socks ... I guess local folks and clients drop them off for consignment ...
... I've purchased new rods such as Diamondglass (those were on the rack) to old throw-aways (freebies) which I've used for parts ... this past summer I was tempted by several nice ones ... But I had to pass them up in favor of a few nice bamboos ...
... No business connection on my part ... I simply appreciate the way he and his associate Jim take care of their clients, offer excellent products at the shop, and are located smack dab on the Penns ...
Bob

Bob Summers usually has some fiberglass rods for sale on his web site. I bought my eight weight Winston fiberglass rod from him.

Tom.
His name is Earl Grant. I have bought from and traded items with him. He is a good guy and his merchandise is good, also.

I absolutely agree about Carmine Lisella being a fair and honest dealer. I have bought several rods and reels from him over the past 15 years or so. Never been disappointed with the quality or the price.

Gary Siemer of http://www.vintageflytackle.com/ deals fiberglass rods. (unfortunately, Gary Siemer passed away in 2018. See spinozarods.com/pages/vintage-fly-tackle for details about the Vintage Fly Tackle collection. Tom)

Grauer's fine tackle. Wayne is a great guy to deal with and a good friend. You can see what he has at grauersfinetackle.com Marty Keene was a friend of Wayne's and so is Len Cadlela. I know if he doesn't have something your looking for, just ask him and he will make one heck of a effort trying to find it for you.

Wayne Grauer's Fine Fly Fishing Tackle website can be found at grauersfineflytackle.com - (the link above was missing the "fly")

I've handed more cash to Wayne than I would like to think about.

Carl,
Thanks for that link. After looking his site over, it went on my Favorites list.

I looked at his inventory.
Based on his description of the Russ Peak glass in his inventory, I think it's made on the same blank as the Vince Cummings Water Witch and River Rat. Someone in past, who I can't find now, said this blank was sourced from St. Croix.

Russ Peak
7 1/2′ (blank), P447, 2 pc, marked for 6/7 line, smooth casting 4/5 wgt rod, owners name and Pasadena California on butt section in black script which is difficult to see, all cork cigar grip and reel seat with alum C&R, original bag, non original tube, dark brown blank, dark brown wraps, spigot ferrule, a very smooth casting classic rod, very difficult rod to find even in a blank—$500

Add Nate Stansfield at Freestone Vintage Tackle. Most of what Nate deals with is cane but he does have some fiberglass offerings on occasion. He is a delight to deal with.
