I have been very reserved and hadn't bought a rod in 6 months (and that one was a Phillipson FlyFox ).

But a Para/Metric just somehow arrived. I had a low bid on one that survived. I still haven't cast it, but it wiggles well.

At the same time I ended up buying a Scott G804/3 from Japan. I had it out for some lawn casting and it is definitely "graphite with a glass soul". It's softer than the F703/5 and F764 that I have. It might not be as versatile as the Steffen 8' 3/4 wt but it is softer and a better small fly rod. But I need to spend more time on the water with both of them this year.

I’ve always wanted a nice parametric but have managed to resist. Let us know how you like it.

It's a PG-40 8'. No line markings on it, just the sticker with the Curt Gowdy signature on it. Dark, brown with the composite handle.

I am guessing it's a 7wt, but I haven't cast it. It's definitely a faster rod than the PD-40 8' 3pc I had.

Most of my fishing is now 5wt or less, so I don't know if I will ever use it, but I've always wanted one. Maybe I will sneak out to the back yard and try it out.

That is a very nice 7wt fly rod. I liked mine so much I bought a second one for back up. I mostly use mine to fish for smallmouth bass. A lot of times that is with a Teeny T130 and it handles it very nicely.

Of course once I started down this road I had to add more and now have five Gowdys now with a seven foot, seven foot six inch, eight foot and eight foot six inch in the collection.

Don't stone me, but I have a Curt Gowdy 8' PG-40, with the plastic rod sock/case, that I nabbed off ebay a few years back that I have yet to cast. I am a bad man.
Maybe I should redeem myself by taking it out with a DT7F and chasing bass soon...

Was the Gowdy rod built on the same blank as the Custom?

I was happily surprised to find a mint 8’ PG-40 Custom in the UK a few years back, with the tube but no sock, for all of $19.

Nice, I've casually had my eye out for the 8'....I do love my 7'6" though!

I suspect all the Parametric line are built on the same blanks.

That said, they can be different.
Decades ago I had a PD (deluxe) 8fter and loved it, so, like the gentleman above, bought another. Exact same wraps, script, everything. Except the new one was heavier. A tad faster.

In the US, a Parametric Custom would be marked "PC 40" and have a bit of bling.

My error - my Custom is indeed labelled as PC-40.

It is a 3 pc, so not the oldest, but red lettering.

Tweetdrivr,

The model/serial number is
G804/3 220072

Is there a key to Scott serial numbers somewhere?

At Scott. If you call they’ll tell you roughly when and where it was made. I believe that’s a Colorado rod though.
