The Phillipson Fools are at it again!!!!

Here’s an alternate 1968 Phillipson Catalog that’s the same as the one Dr Todd posted years ago.
The only difference is the Phillipson Factory page has a different layout .

You’ll also see the way the “Inner Taper” layout was originally printed .
Big huge Glass Disciple shout out to member AngryViking for birdoggin the listing I slept on the first time around
I don’t use a snipe service and was fishing out of range to bid on it .
No doubt we had some Divine Provenance working in our favor to land this nugget :P

Keep Flying Those Phillipson’s
Enjoy!
Dr Phill and the Fools

do not hesitate, I have 2 Phillipson spinning rods and they are both excellent.. also not so much in demand as the fly rods, so we can afford more of them ;-)

Thanks Scotto (Dr Phil) for the cool info! A wealth of historic information and tackle you have.

For those wanting spinning rods I think they are very nice for vintage spinning rods. I only have 3 and they all are catching fish.

fishhuntmike,

You just caused the price of Phillipson spinning rods to go up fifty percent.

Some beautiful fish there.

Great find Scotto! It's great to preserve those old catalogs. Everyone will be hunting spinning rods for sure thanks to mike! lol Great fish in those pictures as well. I came close to a master spinning rod but couldn't work out a deal for it.

So when where the non-bass versions of Swamp Fox fly rods produced? One of you Phillipson Phreaks has to know.

Hey CarlZ
1969..

The DeLuxe Scotchply rods from 1967
Had one 8.6 Bass action rod with std handle
All others were dry fly rods ..

In 68 the new Swamp Fox rods were specifically marketed towards Bass fishing hence the 8.6 and 9ft with the Extra Long Choke handles but had Deluxe burgundy blanks and same Deluxe wraps

The Deluxe series Carries over with dry fly rods and 8.6 Bass rod with std handle .

In 1969 the Deluxe rods and the Swamp Fox rods merge into one series
The Deluxe Swamp Fox rods ..

All Deluxe , Swamp Fox , and Deluxe Swamp Fox rods came with a Carboloy stripper and tiptop
Here’s my DF80

I have been looking for a Deluxe Swamp Fox 7.6 Bass rod to round out my 7.6 Phillies .

Does "Powr Pakt" just mean "Scotchply"?

Hey Trev
The Power Pakt Name goes back to Phillipson’s Bamboo days
The Power Pakt rod was a mid grade rod of its day .

Bill revived the power Pakt name to market the Scotchply rods .

The catalog says all Power Pakt rods are Scotchply Uni directional .
But as dearly departed member Richard aka flyfishingforgoldentrout theorized the “Yellow Master” rods were made on “Eponite “ blanks .

I have independently confirmed this on several Yellow master rods one of which is on my locked phillipson thread . You can see some pics of the Eponite blank on a Yellow master mf86 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=74022

So it would appear that Phillipson used some “creative license “ with the yellow masters being called Power Pakt Rods having straight Scotchply filaments like the rest of the line up .

Russ and Mike I’m sending you the bill for cost overruns on my next Phillipson spin rod purchase :lol

I’m taking my lil 5.6 Eponite DeLuxe ultra lite out for a spin this week
Some rod porn ..

Tight lines in 23
Scotto

Some awesome looking rods/set ups on this thread.

Sigh...I just set up a saved search/watch on eBay for Phillipson spinning rods, inertia is drawing me that way...why fight it I suppose.

Scotto,
When you land your 7.6 Bass fly rod we will need a full review, that one has always caught my eye.
