I've broken maybe as many as dozen or two, fiberglass rods back when I was in my youth and always in a hurry, screen doors, car doors, trunk lids, stepping on, ceiling fan, leaving them where others could accidentally step on them, falling on them; but never by bending one as far as I recall- always a crushed spot. I have broken I think three or maybe four different graphite rods in the process of lifting a long line to recast it, one of them three separate times and places, after repairs. Those tended to break more or less square in two with the feel of an 'explosion', I was told those were likely from prior impact; if so I was never aware of the impacts. I always thought back then that fly rods were like brooms or shovels, tools with limited life spans that were essentially expendables. Sometimes I bought two or three at once out of the bargain barrel. Although I eventually outgrew the rush, learned to use rod cases and to watch doors ect. and it's been a decade or two since I broke a rod, I still consider them as expendables.
