Recently acquired this rod and wondering what the markings at the base of the blank might indicate. Right above the hook keeper windings written with white ink is "7' " which is obvious, then written on the opposite side is " B/Z " Could that be the maker/builder's initials?
Also, the number "27" is written on each section at the ferrule location. (to keep the sections with each other?)

The letters indicate the month and year built. B = February. Z = 1971. The number on the rod is likely reflecting the 27th rod built in this model. Writing the rod number on the rod began in 1966 according to one source I have read.

Post a photograph and your impressions of the rod if you have a moment.

For what it's worth, I owned this model back about 10 years ago along with several other JETs in longer lengths. I found it to be the stiffest of the lot and somewhat underlined with a 4wt line. I eventually sold it to someone overseas.

Thank you for your response...nice to know what the numbers and letters mean :). Once I figure out how to upload photos I'll post a few. Lou
