I recently picked up what I thought was a 6'6" Wonderod. But, after a quick look it appeared Shakespeare was offering glass that wasn't Wonderods in 1967.
The rod is a Model No. FY-A40S-6'6" and dated EDA. The rod has a smooth finish as opposed to that on a Wonderod. Saying it is heavy for a 6'6" rod may be an understatement. This rod weighs 6.2ozs compared to my 9' Wonderod, with a fighting butt, that weighs 6.3 ozs..
Wasn't real happy with my purchase until I cast the rod. This puppy is a cannon and a great casting little rod. I've tested it with a 6/7 Wulff TT line, an 8 weight and even a 10 weight. Easily handled each line.
Not sure what the blank is. Possibly solid glass. Maybe others know and can share their knowledge.
If you need a short, heavy line rod I would highly recommend this one.
Only negatives for me are the reel seat not the greatest and could possibly use one more guide. Probably both factors in trying to make a rod for a lower price point.
