Does anyone know the history of Timberline? Were they made by LL Bean?

The late Bill Franke owned the Timberline rod co. He built rods on Lamiglas blanks under the Timberline name and also for LL Bean. They are really soft rods, mine is a 5/6 but is a 4/5 for me,a 6 line totally overloads the rod.

Yes, and besides using honey Lamiglas, he was known for his distinctive, and very comfortable cigar grip that had a very quick taper in the front 2.5 inches. Over the years, I have been asked several times to reproduce it.

Timberlines stink!!
Nothing to see here .. just keep moving on to Fenwicks and Fishers…

These are 100% NOT the Best vintage pack rod ever.

Just pass on these rods when you see them .
Terrible action.. Uber heavy …. You’ll HATE them trust me … ;)
Absolutely no Glass Genuis to be found in these rods whatsoever..
None
Zero
Kaput!

Cool you’ve got the 7ft “Yellowstone” (the best of the bunch)

Brian, I’m in the same boat with mine, a seven ft two piece. Where do all these rod tubes end up?

Hey Brian and Arknymph ,
If your looking for Timberline Tubes .. try a Lamiglas tube or an LL Bean tube. :P
You’ll just need to cut it down to size .
Could have a sticker shop recreate a label .
If you guys needed a logo scanned just HMU..

Archfly since you mentioned the Timberline grip,
Thought you might enjoy this ..

Bill Franke called that grip the “Standard” grip

We Timberline Tribesmen affectionately refer to that grip as the “Carrot-Grip” :P
May your Timby’s have tight lines in 23’
