The #21 and #2195 rods mentioned in these pages show up often on eBay. The tip sections are much longer than the butt sections, so be aware this is one of the few rods that is supposed to be like that. These are also rods that would benefit from a longer grip to allow a better balance when fishing.

The idea about using the tip section with 'a short handle' as a spinning outfit is interesting...

I made a short handle for the top half of a 9' St Croix to fly fish tiny overgrown streams in RI ca1977, simply drilled a short piece of broom handle to match the metal male ferrule and glued a reel seat on the other end. It worked fine for a few years. Don't recall where I got the idea. I did use that same rod with a spinning reel quite a few times too, but with out the taped on spinning guide.

Gtreat upload of the old Conolon documents, very interesting. In the 70s I stripped down a cheap ABU Garcia blue, about 9 ft, Conolon fly rod from the 60s and turned it into a light tackle spinning rod. First time I used it the butt section broken in half. Seemed like the spinning guides put too much stress on the blank.
