I have a System 10 rod that feels like it could use a fighting butt. The sock has no place to hold one. The tube is too narrow to hold a butt, but it is couple inches longer than necessary to hold the rod. The rod does have a removable butt plug.

Does anyone know if these rods came with a fighting butt? Maybe someone has a catalog that would say if it did.

Thanks,
Barry

The one i have didnt come with a fighting butt also. My Ff9010 didnt have one but im sure they originally came with one so i ordered an aftermarket model for rod-building and glued it in place permanently as the dimension of the fighting butt insert was way too small. I might do the same with the system 10 at some point but havent played with the rod much.

I put a Struble fighting butt in a System 7
Nice to have, much less than a big deal to get done.

I'll back up and add about the fighting-butt arbor diameter being slightly small.
I shimmed mine with a thin strip of rubber, and it bit like it had teeth, and remained removable.

I've owned scientific angler rods in in # 6, # 7 and # 9 weights. The # 7 and # 9 came with butt plugs, but no fighting butt. Everything I've read on scientific anglers system rods says they could be added. Nothing saying they came with one though. I had Fly Supplies make one for me.

I have the six weight also and it has a removable plug. The plug on the six appeares to just be a plug. The ten weight appears to be knurled for easy removal. I thought if meant to be removed there would possibly be the option of a fighting butt.

Sold my System 8 & 9 rods and can't remember what type end caps or plugs they had.

I believe 4-6 wt rods had a rubber plug. 7 thru 11 were designed for 2 to 5 inch extension butt,. In the add for Scientific Anglers Rods in the Fiberglass Fly Rods book, page 107 it reads either length supplied. So I think I was wrong in saying they never came with one. I have never seen one though. Sorry for the mistake.

never worth quibbling, no damage was done, but my System 7 that got a Struble afternarket butt, came with the same rubber plug as my System 5.

The o-ring plug that Barry shows was the one designed to be swapped.

I've been watching the listings and appears you can have different butt caps for same model rods. Just looked at a System 10 with the rubber plug. I don't know if it varied by year or was an option.

I noticed the light copper colored reel seats have the knurled cap and darker seats have the rubber cap.
