Did Fenwick ever make such a beast?

Perhaps the closest would be the FF80-4. I would love to have a FF807, FF837, FF857 in 4 pieces for travel and portability. Seems like a missed marketing opportunity.

4PC Fenwicks
315
FF70
FF75
FF80
FF756
FF806
all pretty much 5-6 weights

FF856-5pc 6wt
FF858-5pc 8wt

So looks like your correct, seems to be a hole at the 7wt-4pc.

The 806-4 I had was a 6/7 in my hands. It handled 6 and 7 wt lines well, and I liked it best with a 6.5wt WF line like the Orvis Bass/Warmwater line.

I had an FF80-4 for a second. Don't recall what it was marked, but it felt like a 6/7.

My FF80-4 is a 4WT to me, which is odd because I normally like fenwicks with heavy lines relative to their markings.

I like my FF756-4 with a 7wt. My FF856-5 is fine with a 7wt inside of about 30 ft. My FF85-5 is absolutely excellent with a DT7 at any range.

My late-model (P series) 806-4 was a true 7wt. In fact, that’s why I sold it.
I now have an M-series 806-4 and it is a 6-6.5 wt, which is what I was looking for.

My FF80-4 is a 6 to me, but I’d slide it more 7 than 5. And the FF786-4 is also a 6, but I’d use a 5 before a 7. They’ll each handle 5-7, but what they might use best for you is a different story. I guess there’s enough variability in taste and individual rods that you might luck into one you love as a 7, but I don’t know of a four-piece model that I’d expect to be best as a 7.

I get there are various 4 piece Fenwick models that feel like 7wts in certain hands, what I find odd is Fenwick did not market one designated as a 7wt considering the popularity of that line weight back in the day.

Ah. Sorry, Brian. I now realize you posted in the COLLECTING fiberglass fly rods forum, not the FISHING fiberglass fly rods forum.
From a collectors standpoint, the apparent gap in Fenwick’s lineup you mention is for sure an oddity.
But if you, or anyone else reading this thread, ever wants to fish a vintage four-piece Fenwick 7wt, everyone’s posts above are very helpful.
