So already had a ff806 for larger water fishing, grabbed another one about a month ago at a indoor sale. Just noticed the other day that my first one has a aluminum reel seat. But the new one has a cork reel seat. Is this because they were just different year models or did someone screw around with the cork reel seat rod?

They did put cork seats on at the factory in later years. I have had FF-806s with an aluminum reel seat, a cork reel seat and an uplocking reel seat. Is yours uplocking or downlocking? Check also what letter is in front of the serial number, that will tell you the year it was manufactured. You will probably find the aluminum reel seat rod was made earlier than the cork-seat one.

I do think that's a Feralite worth having two of...

Mine's an aluminum down-locker. One of Fenwick's cork seat versions is an interesting design in that it still uses hoods, a threaded aluminum section and a threaded ring to secure the reel foot, rather than just sliding rings. Is that what your FF806 has?

The cork reel seat has a N and a up locking reel seat
The aluminum reel seat has a Doesn't have a serial number on it anywhere but a down locking seat. I don't have a date code list and can't find one. Thank you for the information. Have a great day! Tight lines!

ā€œNā€ serial numbers are from 1975-76. See:

My ā€œNā€ Ff807 gas that uplocking cork, and they seem to appear on M, N, and P models (there were no O serial numbers, presumably to avoid confusion with the number zero).

I have an 806M, 4 piece, with uplocking cork reel seat. And by the way this rod is a near perfect rod for hiking in to fish in almost any setting other than perhaps tiny streams with a lot of overhead brush.

Add an FF-70-4 to what wthorpe recommends above and you pretty much have all hike-in fishing covered.

Sure wish they made an FF-79-4, it may be the missing Fenwick unicorn. Maybe somebody had one made by the custom shop.
