Morning gents,
Just snapped up a peach ( I hope ) for £45
Fibreglass rod with glass spigot joint, 2 piece, burnt honey colour, in great condition.
Has a nice alloy downlocking reel fitting, chrome fly keeper and snake rings.
On the butt section just above the cork in fine flowing black script it says -
Orvis Tully ( then small reg mark in a circle ) "A"
8' 31/4 oz NCF (7)
Can anyone throw light on this please, age, value, fishability, e.t.c. ?
Ta.

More likely that's HCF - a WF 7 weight.

It sounds like it could be a trade rod version of the Orvis Fullflex A - can you post photos? That helps tremendously.

Apologies can't do photo's at the moment jhuskey.
If you or anyone has a picture of a Fullflex A I'll tell you if it's the same - best I can do.
What is a ' trade rod version ' by the way please.

A rod made for a specific vendor, branded with the vendor's name.

Does your rod look like the one in this old catalog photo? That would be an Orvis Fullflex A from the late 70s. If the rod is in good working order, then yes you found a peach. Old rod inscriptions have been known to fade and chip. See this old post for a close up of an intact Fullflex A rod label (the 'A' is cut off on the right side of the photo).

These rods were some of the first from the Orvis production line. For years Orvis purchased fiberglass rod blanks from other shops and made their cane rods in house. When graphite arrived, Orvis invested in their own rod blank production equipment for both fiberglass and graphite. After a couple years the high demand for graphite rods killed off their fiberglass production.

Thanks jgestar,
my rod is exactly the one shown in the catalog 8' 31/4 oz 7# weight model with the alloy and cork reel fitting in excellent condition.
Looking forward to casting and fishing it next season. The last glass rod I fished was a Hardy fibalite 15 years ago.
Sadly no tube or original bag but I'll look out for a suitable 2 section Orvis one.

oxford chris, you have yourself a honey of an all-around fiberglass Orvis - Congratulations Sir! The cork insert reel seat is one of the best looking Orvis seats imho, simply classic.

Tried to access " this old post " link that you gave me but it said - ' you are not authorised to access this post '
Ergo I couldn't. Thanks anyway and the old catalog photo, which was both helpful in identifying my new ' find ' and
interesting in itself.
Any idea what the original rod bag and tube would have been like BTW ?

Thanks for the photos whirlpool. I now know what tube and bag to look out for. Not sure how lucky I'll be to find a tube with correct label here in the UK though !
Have purchased a Hardy Ultralight #7 size in black, to partner the rod. It looks and feels great and is I think ' period correct '
Once I get a line on the reel the weight should balance rod very nicely.
