Picked up some cool rods at a recent estate sale . Most are marked but this one has nothing but a “rebuilt by” marking - see picture with Rebuilt by Spoon[?] 61”. It is an 8 foot 6 inch rod, seems to be pretty slow action. Not sure it can be ID’d with the rebuild, but potentially someone out there might recognize the original wraps. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

There isn't much to go on. The wraps are not original. The grip and reelseat might be original. Perhaps the ferrule is original. Maybe the "Rebuilt by ...61" indicates the rod was rebuilt in 1961? If that guess is correct, the rod was originally built in the 50s. Dark brown glass was the predominant color then.

My best guess is a Montague or Horrocks-Ibbotson rod, based on the reelseat. But that is just a guess. It doesn't look like a Heddon/Phillipson/Fenwick/Silaflex/NARMCO/Shakespeare rod.

Thank you. The brown fiberglass is a good clue, and narrowing it down helps. I have a Montague Holloglass and the blanks are a tad bit different. But that doesn't mean much.
