I was looking at picking up a very nice 8' Garcia Conolon fly rod (2025B) but the pieces are way different in terms of size. What's up with that? Can't tell how long the upper section is and there's no way to contact the seller.

I don’t have one, but I believe that was the design.

A few vintage, two piece rods were made with a longer tip section (sometimes considerably longer). Off the top of my head I can't recall any made with considerably shorter tips. The vast majority of multipiece rods have equal length sections, give or take 1/2 an inch.

Garcia Conolon made some fly rods with longer tips (this was one of them). The longer tip is vulnerable during storage and transport. If the price is right for the information you have, then give it a try.

Keep in mind, while you ask and contemplate, someone else might be buying your prize. As Upstream demonstrated, a quick forum search got the answer without any publicity. Don't expect anyone reading this thread to wait for you to decide.

I would like to try this another way. You can't buy the rod if there is "no way to contact the seller," and you shouldn't buy a product from someone who is unavailable to provide information about it. So don't give it another thought. But do research Conolon rods here and then search for one you like, available from a seller who can provide additional details if you need them.

Seller got back to me. Got a canned message from the site saying he couldn't be reached. Never seen that one before.

Have all the appropriate info now. Thx

I have 2026B the tip section is about 10" longer than the butt. The butt also includes the 1 inch or so metal spigot ferrule .I have several GC spinning rods that have the same length difference in sections with the tip section always the longer.I have never cast the fly rod .Mine is dark brown and came in a way cool goldtone aluminum case.

I have a Garcia UL spin rod with this configuration, works well.
Back in 1974 I bought a Conolon one-piece fly rod blank and cut it to put in a ferrule, built it this way - the tip is a foot longer than the butt. Worked for me..
Not really necessary these days with the new ferrule designs. Back then all ferrules were stiff and potentially heavy bits of metal, so moving them out of the primary flex area made sense to me.

Methinks those GC rods with longer tips, are just longer blanks that GC cut down to make shorter rods, take a 9ft blank, already cut and ferruled, cut 12" off the butt, and you have a 7'10" rod with staggered ferrules.
