So I’ve spent a few obsessive hours searching for info on the longer FR2000 rods. Very little mention was found. As I am trying to build myself a well rounded kit of rods for the types of fishing I do, I was wondering what people thought of these rods.

Best eight foot vintage glass rod I've cast. Light, roll casts great, tosses dries beautifully. I like it so much that I have a second new-in-tube just in case.

I have the FR-2000s in every length from 6’6” to 8’6” and the 8 foot is the pick of the bunch IMO. I haven’t put in the time with the 8’6” yet to give an opinion on it.
The 7’6” is also really nice, the shorter ones are really not suitable to my fishing right now.

What weight (physical nd line)are yours marked for the 8' rods? I have seen different markings on some of them. What line do you like?

Mine is marked 4 1/4 oz, and 6/7 wgt lines. It’s an amazing 6 wgt ( 7 feels over loaded and soggy) and does quite well with a dt 5 line.
I have seen 5/6 marked rods on eBay but never tried to buy one.

There were two different FR2000's made, some of em standard tip over butt and some of em with swelled tip ferrule. Both kinds nice rods.

I tried to catalog all my FR2000's a while back. (and throw in some of the other cortland rods, such as the crown and other series).
I love these rod. The FR2000 8'6" is a nice 6/7wt and one of the few vintage 8'6" glass 6wt's I will fish, since it is really light in the hand.

I have found the 8' model will handle a 6 or 7wt line, the 8'6" model is much better with a wt line.

I fished the 9' FR-2000 with #9 line for several years before finding that I liked it even better with #8. It was a pretty good roll cast rod. ~$31 new iirc.

I've seen the 8'6" rods marked for five weight lines- that's one I'm aching to try!
