Haven't followed these rods since they first came out. Anyone have an idea on value. 6'6" 3wt 3pc in excellent, lightly used condition. OBT. Thanks!

pictures would help, but from your description my guess would be around $500 +/- $50

My 6'6" 3wt Retro cost $500...acquired it about five years ago in mint condition with original tube and sock. One of my favorite rods and will never sell it. I've only come across one of these rods on the market in the last few years...

That very rod was what got me hooked on glass. I like it so much I had Winston build me a matching mid & tip as an insurance policy against breakage even though I am the original owner with the warranty.

I own all but two rods in the short lived Retro series and watch the market for kicks and the missing pieces. I would venture to guess that any Retro with the optional cork seat with a cap and ring would fetch $500+ easily, especially the shorter rods (6'6" & 7'0" 3 & 4wts). Rods with the standard downlocking cocobola screw-lock reelseat and the thin nickel plated hardware may go for a little less.

There was a VERY few rods produced in the beginning that came with a standard Winston downlocking nickel-silver cocobolo screw-locking reelseat which may fetch a slightly higher price as they are rare.

If you are keeping the rod, enjoy it. I considerate it one of my absolute favorites.

Bamboozle...you were smart to pick up some extra sections and other models. A very nice rod, indeed!

Below is the Winston 2003 catalog that includes the Retro series from Winston...kind of fun to see how they described it and the models they offered that year.

I had the Retro 5', 5'-6" and 6'-6" rods. I custom ordered them with truncated grips and cap & ring over cork spacer seats. All were attractive rods but only the 6'-6" was a great casting rod. The 5' and 5'-6" rods were terrible casting rods and I am accustom to handling short fly rods. Simply terrible rods in the casting department, hard to believe they were designed by Winston.
